Really guys if you don't want Jake to post then stop replying to him. Image IPB

Anyways back on topic. Uhhh wait.... what is the topic? OH right this whole  thing was about femshep being blonde and people say she's a barbie doll/bimbie/is an idiot. If the default femshep looks good (imo) than I may just use her, if she is not to my taste I shall continue making costom femsheps, simple as that. No one will be happy with what they pick for costom shep, heck I know people woh don't like how sheploo looks but do they complain about it all day in a forums? Does it affect their gaming experience at all? Nope all they do is use a nice feature Bioware put in the game called "CHARACTER CREATION". It's a nice little feature, you people who hate the default shep should try it sometime.

If you'd seen #5 without the N7 armor there's no way you'd have recognized her as femshep.

That's the problem.

No, that's your problem.

Not to mention, can you explain to me how any of the new models would be "recognizable" as FemShep without the N7 armor (considering that all of them are new faces)? The logic of that statement has me seriously puzzled.

First you whine and complain for femsheps face to be in marketing (Who the **** cares anyway? Its ****ing marketing), and now she is being marketed, you complain that she is too feminine for you.

It would be great if developers wrote stories that fit so long as they realize that certain depictions aren't solely reserved for particular ethnicities.  There's nothing that says a black, brown, red, or yellow individual cannot have the same upbringing a white individual has.  Nevermind that being black I am a bit of a cliche in that I do have a deadbeat father who I've never heard from I have a mother and step-father who took care of me and are still together.  I have family friends who enjoy/enjoyed a happy home life.  None of us live in the projects or know anything that goes on in the projects, but depictions of that sort are not readily available.

Your not much of a cliche it really depends on where you live. I'm black and I don't really live in the best neighborhood but I'm trying to leave when I get done with College.

Your right nothing says that someone from any race can't have a similar up bringing as someone else, but I do stand by the Italian mobster example lol.

My issues stem from writers or their defenders saying that writers are writing about what they know and what they know (or choose to know) is very selective when it comes to lead characters.  Using myself, I primarily play Shepard as a female.  My being male doesn't stop me from getting involved in the story.  I can play the game as myself or I can imagine what kind of personality Shepard has and have her act accordingly so long as the game allows my input.  I mean, Chris L'Etoile wrote one of the most incredible women I've ever come across in gaming and Chris is male.  So why does it fall to a "writers write what they know" when it comes to ethnicity, but has no bearing when regarding gender?

If I were you I wouldn't take that defense as fact. I don't think its about what the writers do or do not know I think they write about what they want to do. If writers want to write about a hispanic club manager trying to help out his gay boss in the big city then they will do that. If they want to write about a caucasian book writer who has to fight his own creations to save his wife then more power to them.

Its less about ethnicity and more what they want to do with their time. Ethnicity depends solely on what the writer will be making.

I'm suprised people care this much. It was up for vote and the majority voted for No.5 and if you don't like No.5 then just create your own.

Honestly soto, your heart is in the right place - but you ignore so much information that is given to you.

On your thread we already discussed how male shepard had a face model. Femshep did not. Like Fata said, the one you know and love is simply a preset.

And #5 isn't?  Or, for that matter, all of the options presented were just presets.  Still no face model.

So why the change?  Answer: because they thought a more conventionally pretty femshep was necessary for the advertising.

If the new femshep had a face model you'd have a point but, and please correct me if I'm wrong, she doesn't so it's still just presets.

If they'd been "hey, we decided to make a new femshep and spend as much time/energy with her as we did with manshep so we licensed X's face" that might be a different story.  But they just made a pretty preset and went with that.

Don't most players already make their own?

No one is annoyed because they can't make their own.  I'm annoyed because  I think the change was both unnecessary and done strictly because they decided the original default femshep [1] wasn't pretty enough.  And, while I didn't use the default femshep, I did like the fac that she wasn't especially pretty.  Not bad looking, but not pretty either.  She looked normal.

I'm just annoyed that they made the change at all.  There was already a default femshep, they could have improved the art and moved on.  Instead they changed everything, and that irks me a bit.

I'm not going to cancel my pre-order, I'm not butthurt, I'm just annoyed.

[1] For the record, I don't use the default femshep.  I make my femshep look as much like my partner as I can, I tend to do that in all games where you can customize your characters.

I can't help but wonder how many people actually use the default femshep from me1 and me2. If it's not a big percentage (which it probably isn't because most people make their own) bioware probably thought hey why not let the fans pick. Not saying this is what happened, its just a thought.

The bolded statement is not true. I can see that you're new to this forum, but you should know that for a very long time, large segments of the Mass Effect population (mind you, many of them Femshep fans) have been demanding that Female Shepard get an updated face model. In the past year, countless threads have been made by Femshep fans that she get equal treatment as MShep insofar as it means having a unique, crafted facemodel. If they hadn't said anything, Femshep wouldn't have been given a new "default" look.

You do know this is entirely for the fans enjoyment right? Bioware didn't do this to make more money it did this because a large enough minority wanted fem shep marketing.

I've noticed many complaints on Fem shepard default face not being the best or the effort wasn't put into it as Male Sheps face was. Sure they could have licensed a face from a real model but then again this is all just for the fans not anything really necessary.

Personally I rather Bioware had skipped the contest altogether so I wouldn't have to wade through so much rage over who won.

Well that's understandable. I honestly like #4 the best without the Rihanna hair cut. Hell I  think most people would honestly pick her if she didn't have that hair cut.

Don't worry you'll get some peace. I know I did after much frustration.

I have to disargee. If people disliked how BioWare made their FemShep, they'd rage just as hard. I can't tell you how many times I saw the words "Jersey Shore" when they released images of James Vega. Everyone has different tastes, and everyone seems to think that their tastes should come before anyone else's.

The contest was the best and fairest way to settle this. People raging on BSN is nothing new.

People would rage but the amount of rage would have been lowered. The Contest created almost a dozen things to rage about.

"All shepards look like bratz dolls!"

"They are all too young!"

"They do not look like a warrior!"

"This is just a beuty contest!"

"Why is it on Facebook?"

"Oh look Barbie shep won!"

"Why does everyone like Blonde hair!"

"They should have kept the Default!"

"That's now how my shep looks like."
Now if we just let Bioware pick then this is what would have happened.

"They should have kept Default."

"Thats not how i think shep should look like."

Maybe a few more reasons to rage but the amount is lower.

I think Shepard looks both beautiful and badass, a hard combination to achieve. Mass Effect has aliens, gay relationships and paragon and renegade choices. After all that diversity I'm not about to judge based on hair color pixels. That just ain't my style. Simple as that.
