That said, nobody needs to play as the new default femshep, you can probably still have the old default face from ME1&2,
Grrrr. No one complaining is an idiot who thinks they have to play as #5. I'd like it if everyone on the other side would stop with that nonsense. It's a strawman of the worst sort.

What matters is that the femshep fans finally got some love for their character, good for them and congrats!
Well, no, and that's what's annoying me.
My Shepart was not the default. I'm sure some people play the default, but I didn't. My Shepard was never going to be in advertising, and I've got absolutely no problem with that [1]. Customizable games always feature the default character(s) in advertising.
Lots of people who play manshep don't use the default manshep, their Shepard isn't in the ads either.
BUT.
When Bioware said "we'll put femshep into advertising" the reasonable assumption was that they meant the default femshep. Not, repeat NOT, some completely new and more conventionally pretty femshep.
That's the totality of my gripe. They were decieving us when they said they'd put femshep into ads. They aren't. They're putting some new person into the ads and asking us to believe it was femshep. If they'd completley changed the default manshep, created a wholly new character who in no way resembled the old default manshep, there would be complaints.
Same here. I'm not seeing it as love for femshep. I'm seeing it as love for some new character who is not the femshep we all knew.
Take the old default femshep out of the N7 armor and a lot of players would still recognize her as femshep. If you'd been shown an ad with no explicit Mass Effect content but the old default femshep you may have said "huh, it's a Mass Effect ad!"
If, prior to knowing about #5, you'd been shown an ad featuring her face, no N7 logo, no Mass Effect content, maybe a caption about "Coming Soon!" or some such, there is absolutely no way you'd have associated that ad with Mass Effect.
That's my complaint. The generic femshep, not anyone's particular custom femshep, is the old default femshep. She's the one who should hav been in ads (with suitably updated art).
[1] Though, I'd pay a premium to have the option to send my save file to Bioware and get a realy special tin with my particular Shepard, that'd be awesome and I'd pay quite a bit extra for that, and I'm sure many other players would as well.
