To me, the real issues are (1) that the only variable trait in this fan poll for FemShep was hair color. They all had the same face with slight skin color differences. The same nose, same eyes and the same stare? And (2) we didn't have to vote for a MaleShep. No no, Sheploo needs no validation from anyone but FemShep does. THAT is the real issue here.

True enough, but also note that every single one of those lovely women at least made an attempt to tie their hair back. Blondeshep did not aparently even do that much. I could not vote in favor of any except for options 1, 2, and 3 (I think those were the ones that were either tied back or short) for that reason.

I still say we just take the original Jane Shepard and use her as the advertisment/art/etc model for Fem!Shep. She's been in two games as the default, it's insulting to suddenly change her.

Besides, I'm sick of all these people whining.

Not just soldiers... happens to normal people too. I have longish blonde hair and if pulled back and it will attempt to escape at any opportunity and fall to the front creating *that* look.

Grrrr.  No one complaining is an idiot who thinks they have to play as #5.  I'd like it if everyone on the other side would stop with that nonsense.  It's a strawman of the worst sort.

Then why is this such a big issue for you? You really care so much about the ads? If you're thinking of buying the CE, then maybe i'll understand a little better. Even then, if they're not offering a product you like, then don't go for CE and buy only the game. Not perfect I suppose, but life rarely is.

Lots of people who play manshep don't use the default manshep, their Shepard isn't in the ads either.

BUT.

When Bioware said "we'll put femshep into advertising" the reasonable assumption was that they meant the default femshep.  Not, repeat NOT, some completely new and more conventionally pretty femshep.

That's the totality of my gripe. They were decieving us when they said they'd put femshep into ads.  They aren't.  They're putting some new person into the ads and asking us to believe it was femshep.  If they'd completley changed the default manshep, created a wholly new character who in no way resembled the old default manshep, there would be complaints.

Same here.  I'm not seeing it as love for femshep.  I'm seeing it as love for some new character who is not the femshep we all knew.

Yes, like I said, I was surprised to see that none of the candidates resmbled the old default femshep. IMO she should've definately been included in the candidates (if they really wanted to create a poll about it). But reading these threads, I get the feeling that many (granted, I haven't been counting) femshep fans are content with that there's now a woman in the ads too. Maybe they're women themselves, who knows, but the grats were for those people anyway. Obviously you disagree though.

As for the manshep, if they decided to change the way he looks in ads but kept the old look available in the game, I'd be surprised for sure, but it wouldn't affect my gaming experience in any way.

Erm...aren't those photo's from a modeling shoot done for the Isreali army? It was a Beauty pagent. O.o I wouldn't use those as good example pics.

I can't find anything about this supposed modeling shoot/beauty pageant. The second picture ultimately comes from this collection of actual IDF personnel on Flickr.  I don't know what the original source of the first is, other than it being a completely different one.

I find the ignorant hypocrisy in that post amusing, considering that you go the Barbie way to criticize the choice of the community, yet your choice is the most dolled-up version there was in that 'contest' : carefully groomed and placed hair which probably went into hours of trimming, with a little red streak to add to the vanity.

I can tell you're new to the Bioware boards. Complaining about insignificant things is what people do here. How else to explain the fact that threads about serious gameplay/story issues rarely get more than five pages in length, whereas threads about romances with a character often get at least 100 pages? I care alot more about whether a game is fun to play than whether I can make forced flirtatious lines toward some character and then get a creepy and laughably-bad cutscene of them dry-humping. Sadly, many people at these boards seem to disagree...

In the end, we should have known how that vote would go. Young white men play this game more than any other demographic, so they voted for what they "liked". I think the OP (and other gamers) would just like to see a game developer take a risk and just do something different.
