Hair and face in combination, actually. It's true all the faces are rather similar, but the blonde hair makes it look just awkward. But whatever, I never play the female Sheps anyway.

Blonde was the cool and good looking choice, while others were realistic and practical. Protagonist of Mass Effect is an awesome, good looking, intelligent, badass person, and because of that blonde is the most fitting choice. Other designs are appropriate as companions, because they tend to be more realistic and don't need to look pretty.

Yes, a bunch of adolescent/post-adolescent males are going to be spending time ogling an armor-covered woman on the back of their game box.  Because that's way better than playing the new game they just bought or availing themselves of an internet full of free porn.

People look at game boxes in stores and in advertisements which is the point.  Not in the shower.  Guess I showed up here and ran smack into the resident troll...or something.  A disappointment from Bioware/EA marketing.  That's mainly what I wanted to say.

Who exactly? All males picked the one they thought was hot or was it the imaginary group of males you thought up that touch themselves to the sight of female shepard?

Personally I'm a male and picked the one I thought seem more awesome and actually looks like my infiltrator character and that was #3. Now #5 isn't necessarily that bad of a choice hell I'd bet if she wasn't blonde and everyone picked her then most of these criticisms people have of her would have been gone in a instant.

What's wrong with that? The purpose of the hight-res femshep is marketing. People are more likely to buy a game with a hot femshep on the cover than a less-hot femshep.
