I didn't hate the looks of the character, (Here's the selection, for anyone who hasn't already seen it.) and I thought it was pretty cool that Bioware let the fans help pick the design, but I can't help feeling just a tad disappointed in us, the community. Really guys?* They offered us one Combat Barbie amid 6 women (all of whom seemed to look a lot younger than shep's 29-31 yrs depending on how you view the timeline, but hey, that's Hollywood baby) and we went with the Barbie?
Granted, the tousled hairdo was cool and seemed to fit the Shep persona, and most of us femShepers will probably continue using our custom designs anyway, but it's still a small blow to see a gaming company struggling to make strides in acceptance and inclusiveness feature a typical and cliched version of feminine strength and heroism. Thanks for trying Bioware, but apparantly, we're not ready for that kind of responsibility yet. Maybe you should've started us off with a goldfish, saw how we did with that, and went from there.
Then again... maybe I'm just bitter that my choice was shot down...
*guys is being used here to encompass all genders, fyi
edit: I think the PC Gamer article sucks
but
I do agree with this one
just hoping to give a little insight as to why I feel the way I do.

There are so many reason why I voted for this "Default" FemShep -- From an aesthetic point of veiw. She is far from a typical looking blonde. She does not look like a Californian type of blonde.(Not that there is anything wrong with them --As Jerry Seinfield might put it

) She does not have a tan out of a bottle looking skin either.
1. I find the contrast of her fair skintone with her dark lush eyelashes and eye-liner to be quite striking.
2. Her thick blonde hair is of the same variety as Brad Pitt.
I think the PRIMARY reason why I have voted for her and defended her in other threads. Is not b/c I have been told and (supposedly conditioned) by the mainstream media that "this is what a woman should look like."
NO... For me, in a real sense -- Voting for FemShep 5 was my way of giving the "Middle Finger" to that nonesense said about humans with blonde hair and blue eyes in the Mass Effect Novels. <_<
Apparently, we are suppose to believe that even though people with blonde hair and blue eyes have walked this Earth for thousands of years.By BioWare's reckoning, they should be a rarity in only a little over 175 years time from now.BioWare Please...

Seeing as how FemShep and ManShep are defying extinction in Mass Effect 3.It occured to me, that having an endangered species like a natural blonde in the Mass Effect Universe being on the forefront of the War against the Reapers.Doing all within their power to defeat the reapers.Could have a bit more signifigance. If it was a blonde. For she embodies a kind of irony and "Poetic Justice" if you will...
