Just curious to see other people's opinion on when it's best to play Legacy and why.

I think it's the end of Act 3 before the final battle, only because Grey Warden Carver's dialogue is alot less whiney and more reflective of him getting along with his brother, rather than the "Oh, hi" and "Great, you again" we see at the end of Act 2 or during Act 3, so doing it before those didn't make alot of sense to me.

I'm also curious as to where Legacy best fits in story-wise. It would be nice if DLC had a "recommended" story line spot somewhere in the readme or something.

I do it near the end of Act 3 as well.

Act 3 before the final battle, though I feel you do miss out a bit with hawke's mother and sibling interaction with her.

I heard that the best place was near the beginning of Act 3, so you can get a bit of use out of the swag that comes with Legacy.

What are supposed to be the possible endings with the siblings and your mother? I know I did it in Act 2 with Grey Warden Carver after All That Remains, but I still got an ending conversation with Leandra (no Carver, though). Was she not supposed to show up, or is she only absent if you do it in Act 3?

I honestly liked it after everything else was done, because Cassandra tells varric he forgot to mention, like she thought of it when he was done. Also gears me up for whatever expansion will come out.

If you do it in Act 3 it's where Hawke appears to remember a conversation they had with their mother. That or Hawke is seeing dead people.

I've only been though it in early to mid Act 1, but I was surprised at how well that worked. The Cass/Varric scene can be interpreted as him having left it out of his retelling of that Act, with Cass knowing roughly when it would have gone down or whatever.

It fitted in nicely with the few Carta related quests that crop up in Act 1, as well as the whole money making thing (carta base = loot!) The banter never felt off, and whilst getting to bring a GW/Circle sibling is no doubt good fun, extending the content available to them early on has much the same effect. I liked how they reference those things which relate to the Act as well, such as the little detail of them going to the Deep Roads prior to the expedition.

They have a nice sit down with Leandra at the end, and that seemed perfectly placed too.

It presents a reasonable challenge for that early level of the game, and the loot you get is rather useful - more so than I hear it is later on?

I plan to play through it in Acts 2 and 3 fairly soon though, so maybe it'll just be even better in one of those playthroughs.

I think the loot is most helpful during early-mid Act II, and Circle!Beth's story makes the most sense at that point too. If your sib's a Warden, though, best to leave it to Act III once you've done Finding Nathaniel, though this is less stark for Beth than for Carver and less stark for Friend!Carver than Rival. Templar!Carver also makes more sense in Act III.

The story works quite well in Act I regardless, and I think the closing conversation is the best there, but really, I'd only play it then if I was planning to kill off my sib. To me, seeing them again when they've been unavailable for a while is worth a lot.

I've always thought that doing it in Act 2 blows off a rather fascinating plot point way too soon. Ideally, I'd have it canonically take place postgame, and have Corypheus as Hawke's ultimate foe.

I've played it in Act 1, 2 and after the final battle in 3. It seemed to fit in well in all those spots. They've managed the dialogue so it fits in with what's happened so far. The post Act 3 chat with Bethany and Mum was well done I thought and possibly the most poignant.

The only issue I had with doing it before the end is Anders - well I won't say why for spoilers but just his reaction to something that happens doesn't then affect his wider game convo. Which of course it can't but that niggled a bit for me. Not enough to make it annoying though - I've only taken him through once then cycled other chars for different chat.

Just imho of course.

Personally: In terms of story I'd put it after you become the champion. The idea that some random refugee could kill an ancient Tevinter magister just annoys me. The deep roads expedition adds come credibility to it in act 2, but I still don't like it.

In terms of gameplay I'd say early-to-mid act 2, because it's comfortably difficult around then and the items are useful for quite a long time after.

Just me, though.
