see, i start up mass effect 2 it cuts off a thirs of my screen because its set to a weird resolution. obviously i can't play this way, so i go to the options menu, select graphics, change to the correct resolution, and as soon as i exit out it changes back. every time. i tried doing it and pressing esc to get out, same. i tried using the little winding back arrow to do it, same. there is no "Accept" button to do it with, or anything like that, so every time i exit the graphics menu it changes right back to the way it was, no matter how many times i change it. i registered the game with my profile as i see in other threads not registering it has caused doubt of authenticity. please help, i've looked everywhere for help and nothing related to my problem comes up.

also, i tried using the launchers configuration, but no dice. its just plain unchangable there.

Because you havent included any system details in your post, we can only guess.
All I can suggest is run both the game, and config utility, as admin so it has the rights to write to the files that store its configuration settings.
If that doesnt work, please post a full error report as outlined in the "Read First" thread.

terribly sorry, i was an idiot

here are the specs for my comp:

and here is the config summary

it is a digital download from Steam, so i am unable to run the game itself as admin or the game launcher as admin. at least i assume, i searched for a "Run as administrator" option in the menus but there was none to be found.

the only way i really modified my game in any way was with custom key mapping.

is that good? I'm terribly sorry I'm a noob here...

Edit:
okayyyy the images were removed so here are just the direct links to them:

There is an option somewhere in Steam to be able to run as admin. Also make sure it is being run in XP compatibility mode. I cant tell you exactly where, as i dont use Steam myself.
Also, in the config utility, there should be a setting for aspect ration, is that set for 4:3, 16:9, or 16:10?
If you have an LCD/plasma display, it should be set for 16:9 or 16:10.
If you cant find the run as admin option, you should be able to browse to the executables (or use windows search), and run them as admin.

this is for those who have the same problem: i ran the config exe as admin, but it diddn't work, still looked like this: http://i.imgur.com/m40gq.jpg. i then tried changing the aspect ration FROM 16:10 to 16:9 and that DID work.

thank you so much :-). you guys really know your stuff, unlike Microsoft tech support :P
