Maps too small, constantly spawn and insta killed.
Are you sure? because I think we're both playing different games here, the maps in Halo: Reach are NOT small like in other shooters.(I'm looking at you, Nuke Town!)
Perhaps "too small" wasn't correct. I just thought the MP maps (the few that weren't ripoffs from previous Halo games) were poorly designed. I understand that knowing the maps is a big part of being a sucessful player and they wanted to make it easier for new players to have fun without getting owned, but the maps were frustrating. I played Halo a long time and consider myself to be a skillful player, but in Reach I was constantly dying in BS ways, usually because of the maps. Enemies would spawn everywhere, so instead of chokepoint battles you just get shot in the back over and over. Spawning and being instantly killed was too common, even on the larger maps. It was like a CoD style of map design - run around like a lunatic spray and praying and you'll wind up with a decent amount of kills. That might be fun for a new player, but for Halo vets it was terrible. I would consistently lose to players I knew I was better than because the game rewarded a spray and pray mentality. The DMR was the worst offender in this. I'd line up 3 perfect headshots, while meanwhile some noob points the gun in my general direction and fires as fast as possible. The randomness of the gun mechanics made situations like that basically 50/50. The armor abilities only made it worse, especially the broken invunerable ability.
I don't mind getting blown up by the occasional rocket launcher or sword hero, but when a default weapon makes most battles a matter of chance rather than skill in a twitch FPS, thats a problem for experienced players. I eventually traded the game in because playing it just made be angry at all the BS and the game screwing me over.
Many other players felt the same way, I think I remember reading that Reach is far and away the least popular Halo game online (excluding 1 and ODST).
