I don't see why anyone is opposed to this.  If you have an HDTV, or otherwise amazing eyesight, then increasing the font size does nothing.  But for those of us with SDTVs, due to money problems and such, it would mean the difference between legible and illegible.  They don't have to do "compatibility," just make the font bigger.  Those with HD would have crystal clear large font, while SD users will have slightly fuzzy but readable large font.

The solution is clear.  Make the font larger.

This thread is proof positive that some people like to be contrarian just for the sake of being contrarian.

Increasing the font size to where it was in ME1 is an easy fix that wouldn't detract from ME3's development at all, and is a fix that would have no negative impact on those who didn't have a problem with ME2's font. Those telling the OP to get a new TV or buy glasses are literally complaining about increasing the font size, just to complain. Well done BSN.

That makes too much sense to some people:?

I had a 54inch HDTV and i couldn't read ME2 text either.

Okay, if you can't read the text on a 54 inch and I can read it just fine on a 42, I think there's something wrong with your eyes and you need to get them checked out.

No sarcasm, I'm seriously concerned. Of course it could depend on how far you sit from your television, but come on, FIFTY FOUR INCHES?

You'd have to be 20 feet away to not read the text no matter how small it is.

I do have problems with my eyes. I'm near sighted and color blind.  ME1s large text and  blue backgorund/white text was easy to read. ME2s small text and red/orange background with yellow text is VERY HARD TO READ AT ANY SIZE! It's more the colors than the size but making the text large would still help the color blind.

I do sit about 20 feet away from my tv as i have a giant living room.

I bought a another HDTV 2 days ago and the colors are brighter and sharper but it STILL hard to read.

I swear the next HDTV i buy is going to be over 70 inches just to keep this from being an issue in the future.

Evilatem, what display mode/setting do you play on? Because if it's anything below 480p, chances are you will have difficulties reading text regardless of how large your screen is. I have a 32" Sharp Aquos and I play on 720p. Everything is perfectly readable even from several meters away.

It was in HD 1080i, but it was like the first TV to ever offer it. It was a 7-8 year old set the was a rear projection. The convergence was starting to go on it for the last few years but ME played perfectly fine, but ME2 was a blurry mess.
ME was mostly blue where as ME2 was very red and the red was the color that was losing it's convergence.

I think the colors were more of the issue than the text size but tiny text didn't help.

ME2 looks much better on the new set but the text is still quiet small. It's a much smaller tv than the other one.
42 inch vs  54 inch

I don't think the problem in ME2 was the size of the text, it's just that the text had a bizarre non-clarity if the graphics/resolution wasn't up high enough.

I have an idea lets all build giant magnifying glasses for our SDTVs then we don't have to worry about small font ever again. Just kidding but yeah I have had problems with this as well. Guess I have to jump on the bandwagon and get an HDTV...

My dad has 20/10 vision. Get on his level.

I could put a PC-elitest-eff-da-consoles post here, but that isn't my style. If you can connect you console to a computer monitor, I recommend it.

People were complaining about this a lot in the ME2 threads when it was first released. I can't recall what the official response. I think it was either "too expensive to fix now" or "technical limitation in the engine". Anyone recall?

How is text size a limitation of the engine? It's like... the thing computers were designed to do!

Man, I totally feel everyone who has been forced to squint at their TV screen because of the unreadable text in videogames. I only got a proper HDTV a few months ago so I've been in that situation. I always complained about the small text back then haha, honestly though, my personal suggestion is for you guys to start saving little by little and get a HDTV. Small text or not, the difference is humongous, even more so if you can afford to throw a few more bucks on a HDMI cable. I have terrible eyesight as it is, so my eyes are suffering a lot less now that my TV screen looks nais.

I fail to see why the Unreal 3 engine would be so hard to code. Why would it be any harder than changing a value pertaining to text to increase/decrease the size of it?

Another vote for an option to increase text size in ME3 and DA3 please!

I couldn't read anything in ME2 or DA2, I hate missing out on the codex and journal entries 'cause I still use an old school 'big box' tv. The text is way too small and the letters fuzz together.

edit - can't use the type of pc monitor I own with the xbox plus my monitor is tiny

That isn't really the issue.  I bought DA:O for the PC, and cranked the resolution up to 1920x1080 on my 55' TV, and I can't read much of the text (granted, I'm old, so that may have something to do with it too).  I think it's more a resolution x text size problem.  Resolution goes up, text size stays small.  Maybe on HD monitors instead of larger TVs it's okay?

Alright. Google search is your friend (not the forum search, however, which is your nemesis and hates your mother).

We understand that on some Standard Definition TVs the smallest text in Mass Effect 2 can be difficult to read. While this was not an intentional result, it was a byproduct of enhancements to the user interface.

After investigating potential solutions, we have determined that while this issue does affect a small portion of SDTV owners, we are unable to resolve it for Mass Effect 2 through a title update. However, we have taken note of this issue and will take it into consideration as we plan future games in the Mass Effect franchise.

So... it sounds like it's not a limitation of unreal but is a limitation of the UI they plugged into their modified version. Changable, so the issue could be addressed, but the question then is what else might be affected?

If they don't, apparently here's a workaround: link.

I don't think the SIZE is the problem, it's just all weird and pixelated-looking.

Alright, I was getting ready to exit out of this thread after the first page (do agree with your stance though, for the record; damn if it wasn't annoying during my first playthrough before I got an HDTV) but this comment... this comment made me crack up.
