SDTV's aren't relics yet so it's inconsiderite to start making game for a system that was originally made for sdtv and has sdtv audio/video cords in the box.

I agree. On my 40" 1080p LCD, sitting 8-10 feet away, it's still difficult to read messages and codex entries.

I absolutely support this. Whenever I wanted to read something in ME2 I would have to lean forwards in my chair to get a bit closer to the screen and would still have some difficulty reading the text.

I keep forgetting some people don't have HDTVs. It does suck when developers have fuzzed out text.

the OP's point is that those of us who can't play mass effect on a HD tv have trouble seeing the text because its designed to be viewed on an HD and large tv.

I would say that in this decade, an HDTV should be a requirement for console gaming. The huge text is completely superfluous to the vast majority of players, and hinders the developers greatly.

This is especially true when you consider that a regular TV simply cannot cope with the graphic quality of current-gen consoles. It's a waste of money, like buying a top of the line PC video card when your display is a 17-inch 1024/768 monitor.

It'd be easier just to buy a cheap $150 HDTV and play it on that.

I know how you feel. I couldn't see nearly anything on my old TV when first playing ME2. But if you can't afford a HD TV there are other options. Such as the one I used.

Check out this video:
Those little cables? Cost me $7 total, just needed to hook up my speakers as well. Basically lets you use your PC monitor as a HD TV. It's not the best solution and doesn't outright fix the problem of tiny text, but it is cheap and makes the text viewable.

Unfortunately this is for the Xbox360, but I'm sure there is a PS3 one as well.

If they made Mass Effect for original Xbox with worse graphics maybe I would have bought that. But I was forced to change (for some good reasons like all the horsepower improvements) and now I'm forced to change again (not for a good reason, television is only a monitor to see what's happening, atleast to me)

Still, eventually I adapted (maybe my 20" SDTV doesn't make the text as small as for some others) but everytime I switch to another game and go back it's the same "Oh no I forgot the text" thing. But really I'm only hoping for things to not get worse

Small text is great on my 1080p monitor. Get with the times please and stop living in the past (or use crappy consoles).

That's great that you can afford one...some people can't.  I'm sure everyone would have an uberlite PC and 1080p monitor if they could, but there is such a thing as a budget in some people's lives.  Consoles are cheaper and a much more stable platform; you are guaranteed to get a good 5 years out of them.  I have to think most PC elitists are suburban white boys from very well-off families, because they can't have had too many life experiences outside that little bubble.  Looking down on someone for not having a $1,000+ piece of equipment is just quintessential snobbishness.

Also, have you considered people with disabilities?  Such as people with very bad vision or colorblindness?  Maybe they could benefit from more text options.

Everybody always likes to jump instantly to an opinion after only considering how it affects them personally.

Or they have jobs and a reasonable amount of disposable income.

Yeah, I did say most.  Chances are that the people who have jobs that allow them to have disposable income were either the demographic I have already mentioned, or they worked hard to get where they are and thus they have a broader perspective on things and would not be PC elitists for the very reasons I already went over.

Also, many people have a job, or multiple jobs, and don't have disposable income because they have families, dependents, and bills.  Contrary to what Fox News would have people believe, usually the most hardworking people in society are not the Wall Streeters and other "job creators" (heh <_<), but the people living paycheck to paycheck.

And besides, what's the issue with including more text options?  If you give the option to make the text bigger, smaller, or different colors, everybody wins.
