I just had a random thought, but what about a Werewolf in the party?

One that is afflicted with the curse (and is trying to control it through magic of some sort. He would also have a talent tree dedicated to his "wolf form" like a shapeshifter, only it would be for a non-mage class mechanically.

I don't know, I think it would be an interesting fit to go through, although it might clash with the scope of the setting.

I'd love to see some of the companions from DA:O / DA2 come back as background characters rather than as companions.

Also, whoever said Gamlen with the Wallop Mallet, thanks a lot, I nearly spit my drink all over my keyboard!

Perhaps one new companion per class. They a have one dlc one also likely as Shale or Javik in ME3(who should have been in the game).So what the balance it a be about 10. It should be a based upon previous decisions in some way.

Same here Loghain is such an awesome character and he got send off to help the Wardens in Orlais in one of the endings of DA:O where he commented on the irony of it all. Hope we get to see him again in DA3.

Cassandra (haven't liked her much in DA2 or the animation, but expect we'll see her)
new male character, preferably a chevalier

the boy with the Green Sword from Redcliff, which the epilogue said could grow up to be a hero
Charade

Mage-
Finn
new female mage

Nine and Ten from these, maybe..
Dagna, nice idea, maybe as either a dwarf enchanter or a rogue if you didn't support her, lots of gadget tricks either way
Ariane
Sigrun
Velanna
Tallis
another new character, probably a mage unless Velanna's in

Number nine has got to be an elf, and then I don't know, but we've had a dwarf each game, so probably.
I expect there will really be a lot more new characters, but most of those first eight are as new as Merrill was.

And denied by who? Bioware? I thought they never commented on rumor and speculation.

Well that one they actually denied and said it was only a rumor.

I would argue that the cast is possibly larger, because it makes little sense to be top-heavy with one group of characters. Dragon Age II had that issue because Bethany/Carver were only in half of the game, while the Rogues had 3 characters, four if you count Hawke.

I hope Cullen will not be a companion but i want him in game because i waiting to kill this idiot when i since I met him the second time in tower magi but this as**** managed to get away as when my mage hawke beat meredith cullen curled up like a dog damn hawke you lazy bastard why you don't kill him!?

Back to companions
Leliana -hard to say i see her more as major character than follower because no matter what you do se always live and she is left hand of the divine.
Cassandra-More possible unlike leliana she does not have many fates (not that in leliana case matter:)).
I doubt they give us old companions maybe varric but seems that his role ends in epilogue DA2 and in best case he end as cameo others have to much fates to be brings as companions.

Yes, I believe most of the information on that post was revealed by that one person who took that DA3 survey, he posted it on a forum or something. 
The information is paticularly interseting, however. Most of the characters defined in that post would, in my opinion, be really cool to find out more about. Especially the "Iron Bull." I think he left the Qun to be Tal-Vashoth, then left them to pursue the career of a mercenary. I loved Sten, maybe he'll be just as interesting.
Another character that I would find interesting would be Sera. The Elven archer girl. She's young and has a sort of bratty attitude. Takes pride in her heritage but treasures money over all. I guess she's big in the undercity where she lives, she's part of a network of rogues. Hmm.. a sort of Isabela/Merill compliation? Sounds fun. Maybe my Inquisitor's LI? 
Anyways, nothing is confirmed. Basically nothing at all. Not even the amount of companions we'll be getting.
We basically know that Cullen and Cassandra are confirmed to be in DA3, not confirmed to be companions but I'm thinking more than likely they will be. Especially Cullen. Damn fan-girls. Hopefully after the experiences of DA2, Cullen won't be like he was during DA:O. Or we'll have another Anders on our hands, Templar version.

But after DA2, I can suspect that we'll be seeing an immense ammount of gameplay, screenshots, trailers, etc. due to fans saying that Bioware destroyed the series because of DA2. (Didn't think DA2 was THAT bad.. but hey, just my opinion) So at least I'll be appeased with more info on this game. But Bioware has stated that they won't be revealing any information on the game unless they have gameplay to back up they're words. Maker, help me.

About Cullen - well, given all the things he went through in DAO and what he has seen during DA2, it's highly possible. I can't say that I like him very much, but if he will be a companion... well, at least it will make his fans happy, I guess.
(And I don't think that DA2 was bad, as well - I actually replayed it more often than DAO. I wasn't able to finish the latter for quite some time - it just got boring after finishing two or three "gather the army" quests. imo only.) 
All the other companion concepts sound intriguing, but if it was denied... I'm sure that whomever BW has chosen to be the PC's companions, they will be not less interesting. Or at least I hope so. Personally, I would prefer if the recruitable characters would be new rather then returning NPC's.
I'm really glad that BW take their time for working on DA3, but I'll be so much happy if they would reveal at least something. Well, right now we can do nothing but wait, eh?

I like the new characters there, and if there are 12 (here's hoping :-) ), then there's definitely room for a nice mix of old, new, and practically new. We'll see.

Also, I hope the idea of four compainions in party at a time turns out to be true. More together, larger the group at any given moment, the more dynamic the group interaction has a chance to be. So that would be great. )

I could probably go on forever... I know I'll be happy with their chosen cast no matter what; that's one thing that never disappoints me from BW.

Companions I would love to make an appearance:

Charade- She's pretty cool, and I feel her character could be stretched out more. We already know she's resourceful. dedicated, and able to fend for herself.

Connor- Because it's been 10 years and I'd love to see what sort of mage he has become. Of course, he's dead for a lot of wardens so this probably doesn't fit at all.

Nathaniel- Because we need a bit of broodiness, and if Anders can survive in Awakening no matter what, why can't he?

There is always a way to work around dead characters.

Either make them have cameos, or make them companions in place of someone else. Think Padok Wiiks in Mass Effect, they can do that for quests, but take it a step further.

Of course, this would imply that there are over 12 possible companions...which is a lot.

Sibling (Especially if they're a Warden, as they would have a great reason to find both characters)

I really don't want 'old' companions back again. Give me new ones. I'm fine with cameos and the like...but bleh, I didn't like how Merril, Isabela and Anders showed up in DA2 as companions.

Bethany romance....able if thats a word for the new Player! in my game shes a mage turned grey warden, kinda would fit perfectly into my story. or isabela back by god i love her sense of humour reminds me too much of my self. EVERYTHING is a sexual innuendo
