I actually liked Isabela and how she was done, although Anders was such a different person that it really jarred him being in DA2, Merrill was way too naive sometimes that I find taking her at all seriously very hard. Sometimes it made no sense whatsoever like when she thought a mugging was a hello, a cute line to be sure, but she has to be very very daft to not know when someone is in pain or being hit after being with Hawke for even a little while. I don't blame cameos so much as the writers wanted an innocent Blood Mage and maybe went too far with it and needed someone bonded to Justice with angst.

Merrill's problem was that she could be super naive one sentence and has very strong opinions about what she's doing or what someone else is doing the next moment. Some of it actually very logical and interesting if party banter is anything to go by.I think what Carver said in MOTA makes sense. "You do that on purpose."

I really don't want 'old' companions back again. Give me new ones. I'm fine with cameos and the like...but bleh, I didn't like how Merril, Isabela and Anders showed up in DA2 as companions.
same here. None of the companions in DA2 were people I really wanted to have as companions or I would have liked to know more about. Varric was okay but I wouldn't be sad if he didn't return. Cameos by previous companions are fine with me, too (especially Alistair
I would like to see Cullen as a party member this time around though. After all those appearances he had in the previous parts I finally wanna have him in my group.
And those, who don't like him, can just kill him off if they wish to

Just three characters and they are all from da-o. Bring back my DOG !!!!! Seriously, I KNEW that Da-2 was going to suck when I saw what they did to my Mabari. Second, Morrigan. I don't care if she is actually a companion....but, I need resolution on that whole plot line (It's the REASON I bought and played "Witch Hunt". And third, (and I want her as a companion) Leliana. "Shoes, oh...you should Seeeee the shoes !!!" Loved her and her storyline from Orleas (sic). But, really, bring back my DOG and I want him to roll over and fetch weird stuff for me, lol. Bark and do all the really cool things he did originally.

I could honestly see them bringing in a new main character and during the questlines, we find out what happened to the Warden Commander and Hawke after DA2. Maybe their romance option would be with them and depending on your relationships with them... like F!hawke/Fenris or M!hawke/Isabella.. Maybe they had kids.. WHO KNOWS!
But back on track... during the main questline, the three heroes have to take different paths towards the same goal but with their trademark groups!
Also.. I want to see Morrigan again... damn **** dun took mah God like baby D:<

Personally, I want Cassandra as a companion. And I think she will be, given her importance in both DA2's plotline and Thedas at large (Hero of Orlais and all that). But if she were to be a companion, I'd also want Hawke to play a major role as an NPC, seeing as how Cassandra's been hunting him/her for three years, now.

Charade, Gamlien's daughter from DA2 would make a good party member.

1. Cullen (He's very popular. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he makes an appearance)
2. Carver/Bethany/Charade (Possibility. It could tie in the DA2 game a little to the DA3 storyline. I liked the suggestion of you get one of them depending on which or both siblings die. It seems like a lot of voice acting work though and thus seems highly unlikely you'll see Charade. )
3. Feynreil
4. Maraas
5. Intelligent Darkspawn (Those strange allies the Wardens have made?)
I think it's unlikely we'll see any previous companions come back. We didn't have anyone come back except Anders or in cameos in DA2. As much of a dissappointment as DA2 was in some respects, I did like that they introduced some brand new characters or brought in characters as companions who weren't major in the previous game.
We'll likely see some cameos from Merrill, Isabela, and others; but I doubt we'll see any of them come back as permanent party companions. Especially the ones that were romanceable.

1. Cullen, he was a bit crazy in DA:O, but I like the way he's developed through DA 2. Consider how popular he is, seems like he might be our companion in DA 3.
2. Carver / Bethany as companion as well as love interest. For some reason, I grew quite fond of Bethany. A shame she wasn't around much in DA 2. Romancing her would be much better than that sodding brainless stubborn bloodmage, who sounds like a strangled cat, and act like a socially retard. Too bad, DA 2 forced me to be her older sibling.
3, Lanaya. One of a few interesting Dalish in DA:O. A Keeper (or First) as companion, that would be fun.

4, DOG!!!!!! I want my Maximus!!! lol A bad ass mabari hound is the best companion to have by your side!!!!

Cole. Definitely Cole.
Not so much that I speculate that he's in the game, but that I really really hope that he is. Without ruining anything major from his appearance in the Dragon Age: Asunder novel (a wonderful quick read), I'll say that he's one of the most fascinating characters in any lore that I've read about, and as a companion, there are a lot of different directions he could be taken.
Needless to say, we've already seen Arcane Warriors (Mage/Warrior) and Spirit Warriors (Warrior/Mage), I'd say that if we were to encounter and/or recruit Cole in Dragon Age: Inquisition, he'd likely be our first glimpse at a Rogue/Mage or Mage/Rogue combination. Say for example, a Spirit Assassin, or a Shadow Mage.
And quite frankly, those sound awesome.

If they can some how turn the Warden or Warden Commander if the Warden is dead in DAO Import Data into a Companion for DA3 then DA3 will be a must have.
But on main subject..
I can expect Morrigan, Cassandra, Leliana, Varric, Isabela, and Zevran(if he survived DAO).
Hopefully Dog as a non-DLC summon companion as well.
Would love to have Oghren back. Just imaging the funny banters Varric and Oghren will have if those two are companions.

I Reckon, assuming that they might do a quest chain about the continuing mage rebellions in DA:3, It would be a good idea to see your character caught in the middle of the forces of Morrigan (Mages) and the forces of the Hero of Ferelden (Grey wardens/Templars). This would be pretty cool, you know like bringing the battle to Orlay where DA:3 is said to be set.

I suppose if all of Thedas is in disarray, we can maybe expect 'representatives' from the various different problems affecting the world that we've learned about in the previous games and novels. For example;
-A Templar and a Mage.
-A Tevinter Magistrate and a Tal-Vashoth Qunari (Representing the on-going Territory Battle, but distancing itself from the religion story branch).
-A firm believer of the Chant of Light (A Seeker, maybe), and someone (not necessarily another Qunari, like Tallis) who follows the Qun.
-A Grey Warden and someone who looks out for their (and only their) well-being like an Opportunistic Thief or another Rivanni Pirate.
-A Dalish Elf and an Orlesian Noble.
Whatever the case, I have full faith in Bioware to gives us tremendous companions, and I can't wait to experience the party banter/chemistry that certain characters will have with one another.

Question, I have read very little about the new game so bear with me. Since Bodahnn, specifically said in Dragon Age 2 that Sandal was going to work for a queen (or something similar) in Orlais, shouldn't we expect to see those two around again? I mean Orlais is going to be a central part right? or do I have that off and should be thinking Antiva?

And if he must be a companion allow me to banish him back the Fade. Why? He was easily one of the most interesting characters in Asunder. I'd be thrilled to see him back.
Because he's a Fade Spirit?
Because he's very unpredictable in his actions?
Because he's a crazy murderer?
Personally, I'd keep him on in my party, but it's not hard to see why people wouldn't.
Also - Mae from the Until We Sleep comics

I have a question regarding comic and book characters.
Are they guaranteed to show up? I know the upcoming book features Empress Celene and a few new characters, but does that automatically presume they will be playable I guess is my question.
