Shale as a female dwarf would be awesome!
Cullen could work I guess, but I think he's more likely to stay in Kirkwall taking over after Meredith.
Cassandra could make some sense as well but I really hope this doesn't happen.
I nearly broke my "skip the dialogue" button hammering it like mad every time she opened her stupid mouth.
She ruined Varric's story telling for me. There is no other NPC I hated more...ever:bandit:
Feynriel would be interesting if he'd manege to stay sane after Tevinter and not turn to bloddthirsty magister.
Somewhat problematic though for players that had him made tranquile so I don't think this is an option.

Don't really want any of the old companions coming back as a party members. Cameos of some sort would be fair enough but nothing more then that. Sure I loved some of them and they'll always have a special place in my gaming heart but I much rather see some new faces.

That's who I'm hoping for from ones we currently know. Personally, I'm not all interested in previous companions returning (Like Anders did in DA2), it, to a point, destroys the memory of what they once were. That being said, I have nothing against using NPCs.

My hopes for other companions are:
A Female Kossith
A Kossith Mage
A dwarf, female preferably
A human assassin

Cullen (Not for romantic reasons. I just want to see his character evolve)
A character with a personality like Daveth's.

I agree with you with all these great choices Because my Female Hawke romanced Anders i want to see what happened to them when the game finished as when Varric finished the story he said that everyone left the Champions side but except for Anders. What happened between the two and maybe what happened to Anders and Justice?

I mainly would like to see Varric return. He's a true bro, and he made for an interesting character. Where would I be without my lovable wise-cracking dwarf? I don't really care about Cullen or Cassandra, but maybe throw in a typical dwarf/elf rivalry for old times sake? And make them sassy.

....Would be nice to see our hawke/warden's but that would be alot of work to do unless they can program a character code in that will have the ability to transform a non-specific default hawke/warden with our own's codes.

Cullen - His character is perfect to make him an important role in DA3.
Rhys - I really liked his character and I don't really see any huge reasons he couldn't be.
Cole - He was in the leaked survey (which so far has been true) and he is a character that we havent completely figured out.
Cassandra - I constantly go back and foth with Cassandra but i think she is still a possible candidate.

merril was the most memorable companion of 2.isabella felt like she was added so the party would have the comic relief character type.its almost a given that varric will appear,as he was shown in the trailer.this also leads me to speculate that the lead will most likely be hawke.im also guessing 3 will end the "trilogy",and bioware will either end the series or change the formula.

it just doesnt feel proper to end hawkes story as it stands at the end of 2.im almost 99.9% sure that hawke will appear in 3.whether its as the main character or in another role,idk.but..my gut is telling me that 3 will be the end of hawkes tale in one way or another.

We already know that we'll be receiving a new protagonist.  Dragon Age isn't any sort of trilogy.  Each game is intended as its own entity.

There was supposed to be DLC to finish Hawke's story, but it was cancelled to put the team's full attention on DAI
