I hope the story continues with Hawke, because i always want Varric with me.

Before the game was released i thought i would absolutely hate Varric but after playing the game he has been my favorite companion out of the entire series and really do hope i get to go on more adventures with him

He just really blends well with the style of character i like to play as.

-Zevran...classic character. Find a way to bring him back to life for the people who killed him.

And I'd like to SEE Morrigan, Merrill, and Anders (not buying his death) make appearances. I think they've become part of the story, like Flemeth and Leliana, and need to show up.

I don't get the love of Cullen and Charade. I'll pass. They can make appearances, but as permanent companions? Nah.

I'd like to see a human companion who was actually racist towards elves. Given how prevelent the anti elf view seems to be in Thedas, it's kind of ridiculous that every human companion likes them.

Your not, I'm actually hoping that none of the old characters return. Only really because DA2 handled it extremely badly (randomly bringing old characters back to life if they were dead was a horrible  idea). I'd rather never see them again than have that kind of treatment, which denies me my canon in my own playthroughs, and removes the whole point of importing.

I dont mind them bringing back characters that used to be dead, there's always an explanation for why they aren't as dead as they seemed. If the fans like the character and it makes sense for the story, I say bring 'em back.

There's quite the list of awesome characters to choose from if they want to bring in some old favorites. Cassandra is obviously a given, she will definitely be on the team, and probably an LI also. Shale is somebody that should've been back already, Shale as a dwarf is such an obvious choice to show up sooner or later. Bethany would be great to have around more, we didn't get enough time with her in DA2 and she would be a tie to the Hawke family, great for the story and for a general reminder of our previous adventures. Another great choice is Shiani, she was so awesome in DAO, she should've been a team member and she still could be a great one, but perhaps her role might be as a leader of the elves instead in a major storyline. Either way, more Shanni is a great idea.

I don't feel like Merrill's story is complete, she should be around some more, probably not as a team-member again but she should definitely be around, I want to talk to her some more and help her out again. Same deal for Varric, not a team member again but maybe he could do the story-telling voice again or something, he should be around some way, and I'd say the same for Isabella also.

Of course ultimately the best characters are the new ones (Bethany, Varric) but sometimes bringing somebody back works really well too (Isabella, Merrill). Hopefully DA3 will have a nice mix of both.

I'd agree with your entire list, but I'd also add in Feynriel. He seems like a shoe-in to me.

Although...I've murder-knifed Anders a bunch of times, and I doubt I'm the only one who did. Dang that Sebastian and his threats.

Wow! Cool, I'm glad to see so many interesting replies. Sorry to have abandoned the thread, my BSN attendance has been spotty of late. I just recently finished another DA2 run and my memory's a little fresher, so I have a few more characters to speak on.

• Feynriel. Ok, a little tricky. Seems like his story could turn out a number of different ways, potentially. Now, given Anders' many possible fates at the end of Awakening having no bearing at all on DA2, that doesn't make it impossible. However, I'd at least like to think that Bioware would try to avoid these kinds of mishaps going forward. I've only ever rescued him in the fairly goody two-shoes method, sent him off to study with the Dalish and then to live in the Imperium. What is said/what is shown if you "tranquilize" him in the Fade? There might be wiggle room here. I like the idea though, especially as he is a "unique" kind of mage, much the way all Mage companions have been (Morrigan was trained by Flemeth, Wynne and Anders were possessed, Merril had ancient Keeper techniques and her own unique blood magic abilities) thus far.
• Stroud. Hell yes. I can't believe I forgot this guy in my original post. Riordian Jr., for the win. Especially if he's a love interest and you can work in a joke about mustache rides. Seriously though, it seems like we're bound to see or hear from this guy again in some capacity, and a serious-as-balls Warden Commander from the Free Marches sounds like the best idea for a companion... ever, to me. Not sure what some people seem to have against the character (aside from thinly-veiled mustache envy)
• Cassandra Pentaghast. In my opinion, Cassanda will have to play a major role somewhere down the line and DA3 seems obvious, although if there is an Exalted March DLC/expansion, she might play out her part in that. She must have some role to play, otherwise her appearence in DA2 is kinda pointless. And she seems to be Leliana's right hand, and that is a storyline that should/cannot/must not be dropped or forgotten. So her being a companion is very possible. Unlike what seems to be the majority opinion, she seems more of a warrior than a rogue to me, but who knows.
• Charade Amell. Like Cassandra, I'm a bit waffley on Charade. I feel confident that she's a character we have a good chance of seeing more of (though she's a longer shot than Cassandra) but because of her direct ties with Hawke, she would be a good candidate for a DLC/expansion companion and not necesarrily good for a sequel (especially if they want to forget Hawke as much as they can, which might be one good way to outrun the DA2 backlash).

So that makes my list Cullen, Maraas, Feynriel, Stroud, Cassandra and Charade. I have some thoughts on DA:O/DA:A characters as well but I'll save those for a post forthcoming. Keep the speculation coming!
