Lol, I was more referring to the minor characters as Charade and Herbalist task guy; Morrigan was just the obvious choice. That was just my masterpiece phrasing ;)

Also, I have a feeling that we'll see more brand new companions and/or Origins characters in DA3 moreso than characters in DA2. The reason being that in DA2, almost every character can die - it just leaves too many plot-holes to have, lets say, Fenris as a DA3 companion if his fate can be decided during "The Last Straw," (Wether he sides with Mages or Templars depending on the relationship.)
Then again, they could do a "I never really died," thing like what they did with Anders after Awakening (I recall Nate Howe saying "I thought you were dead," to Anders if he died in Awakening.) If that's the case, it's anyone's game.

Why not get some blood mage to resurrect Seamus, give him some awesome Saarebas powers and become a companion of a new protagonist?

No-one.Would.Ever.Know.

I've been doing some thinking and you know what would be just spiffy? Bioware likes inclusivity right? They've done wonders for gay/bisexual characters in games so far (kudos for that btw). But there are other minorities that also get discriminated against just as much.

So, getting to my point. What about a physically disabled companion? We have Sandal in a mentally disabled role (though he comes very close to comedic relief sometimes which is dissapointing) but I don't think I can name any significant characters with a physical disability. Very view games or tv shows or even books for that matter seem to belief that someone with a disability can stil be a hero/brilliant schemer and it's not that they get relegated to a less important role, they're just... not represented at all. Which I think is almost worse.

Besides I've always thought that someone who has a physical disability but who can kick hardcore magic ass would be an awesome character, I might be biased though. ^_^

Sir Otto was blind! Can't forget poor Sir Otto!

Yeah, a Charles Xavier inspired character (but maybe disabled in a different way because I don't think they've invented wheelchairs there,) would scare even the mightiest Ogre

Yah know Sir Otto's death bothered me more than Bethany/Carver's death. I liked that old templar.

One reason why people with disabilities might not be popular in games/books might be because there is a very thin line betweening portraying someone with a disability realistically and just making it seem like you're pandering for sympathy. Also in a magical setting magic could just be used to fix everything, for instance a blind mage companion would obviously be expected to fight, but he's blind, OHBUTWAIT!! he can use magic to see anyway! Which is stupid since then the disability would be nothing more than a token and I'm rambling and sleepy so I'm going to bed now.  :P

When I first met Otto, my instant thought was: "He'd make a great companion." Then at the end of a quest, he's murdered, and I'm just sitting there thinking: "It's always my favorites."

I agree on the protrayal point that you brought up. Realistically, if someone is physically disabled, I doubt they'd be in a position to run around the country/city with the protagonist. Poor Charles Xavier. :?

-shrug- It's possible, but it'd be a balancing act, like I said. For instance, going with my blind mage idea, the mage might be blind but is able to use magic to distinguish enemy from ally and "see" large obstacles like trees or buildings, but is not able to distinguish faces or see small obstacles, for which he/she would need a walking stick. Someone with severe muscle atrophy might make an amazing rogue who fights with a small poisoned crossbow but can't wear any armor. Someone who is sickly might get a slight debuff in cold climes or randomly during gameplay or cough now and again during dialogue, the list goes on.

And besides it doesn't have to be a companion, though that would be really nice, any important character would do. Like a quest giver, or a faction leader.

I want Hawke as a protagonist, and Merrill as a companion, with the possibility to acknowledge a previous romance, and continue it.

Which isn;t so much speculation, as my personal preference. *Shrug*

Ser Otto was probably my favorite non-joinable character in DA:O. I really think they named the most loathsome character in DA2 Ser Otto Alric just to creep out those of us who loved the *real* Ser Otto. It's such a pity there were so few likable templars in DA2. Cullen, Thrask, and Emeric, and that's about it. Keran was cute, but he was way, way too biddable. A few more years in Kirkwall and that boy would be just as crooked as Meredith's other lackeys, unfortunately.

Yeah that's true- even down to Carver. I hated the guy when he was a Templar (Except, you can compltely burn him when he asks "Would you fight against your own brother?" and you can say: "Would you?")
Other than that, Carver was just another hypocritical Templar because as many as both his siblings can be mages.

I just thought of another one actually. What about Anso? We've only ever had confident and burly dwarven companions. I think the jumpy and timid Anso would be interesting.

Charade Amell will return in some capacity, and it could be as a companion.

I agree with this. One of few that actually makes sense and definitely isn't dead yet.

I want to play as the Gray Warden's descendant, and on top of that I want Morrigan to return as some sort of undying witch of a thousand years (but still looking the same, essentially). Over the course of the plot (or perhaps in a DLC), I want to find out how my original Warden found her eventually, they shared some adventures, after which she saved his soul and made sure through magic, that it goes into all of his descendants etc.

Thus, I am a new character and my old Gray Warden at once! :)

Apart from those I want Ohgren, Alistair, Merrill, Cassandra, Isabella, and Leliana back.

Hawke can show up as my valet, if he so pleases. Anders and Varric can go hang for all I care. Never liked either of those.

I think the only characters I would want to bring back are Nathaniel Howe and Shale, other than that I want new characters.

Cassandra would be interesting.
Female Kossith
Pride/Desire Demon in the form of an animal (like kitty) -maybe I'm too hopeful for a griffon

A dwarf is needed and though Varric is the obvious choice as he can't die I would like to see a dwark from Kal-Sharok or Kal-Sharok itself
A female kossith tal-vashoth would good
Ariane could fill the elf role and since she was one of the last to see the warden makes her very important to the seekers
Charade relations to Hawke might make her important
I would like perhaps in total 7-9 companions so there's space for new ones and old ones and gives you a large choice for the party

Speaking of Dwarves, what about Dagna? Remember [the annoying little ginger that screamed at you when you walked past] dwarf in Orzammar called Dagna? The one who studied in the Circle of Magi? I always wondered why they made her so "in your face." Perhaps they'll pull her out of the graveyard of forgotten Origins NPCs and make her a companion. She could definitely have her own class: "The lyrium know it all dwarf." Maybe?

Just a thought..

I think shifting through old NPCs is always good, but I'd like maybe one or two companions who are entirely new to the series. :)

Wow, it's pretty cool that this thread is still getting some love. I've been away from the boards for a while but am slowly returning to the BSN fold. I should come back and compile a new master list, there are some really good ideas being thrown around.

I really like the idea of a dwarf from Kal-Sharok as a new companion. We've seen enough of Oghren, and while I can see Varric maybe making a cameo in DA3, I don't think he'll be a companion again. A Kal-Sharok dwarf would be a nice change of pace and would let us see some more complexity added to dwarves in Thedas.

1. Qunari male like the Varishok from DA2 warrior, leader type is upfront, honest and honourable (2 hander).
2. Elf female poor background, one that is sexually aggressive/sarcastic and witty rogue type (daggers).
3. Elf male poor like in common with female one but is warrior, military persona (1 hander and shield).
4. Sandal to fill in for male Dwarf type which would be caster, support and shy (runestones and spells).
5. Dwarf female extroverted warrior, fancies Sandal for uncomfortable banter between (can be 2h or 1h / shield).
6. Cyborg with laser cannons and can transform
6. Human male which is down to earth, freindly, peacemaker and rogue kind (ranged bow / crossbow).
7. Human female which is noble and rich, pompus and arrogant, mage type, overconfident (caster wand / staff).
8. Dog is always nice to have around or maybe upgrade to wolf for DA3.

9. Main character (race selection like Origins plox) Elf, Dwarf, Human maybe Qunari too (any class players pick).

Probably could think of few more but that should be enough.

I'd be totally stoked to get an old, elven elder who had gone into his/her immortal sleep and then was disturbed.

They could be weakened from their otherwise uber-powerful mage power after their long sleep or by the Quickening, so to have so realism with having such a powerful mage in your group. But they could give insight into the elves of old, during the times of Arlathan and such.

Just an idea. It would be a good way to shine some light on this interesting, but otherwise untouched area of lore.

My own idea for a companion is a former werewolf two-handed warrior. He would be a barbarian-type who invokes his own animal rage in battle.

Sort of like a Dragon Age equivalent to Javik, then. "In my cycle, the mabari would eat their own poop." :P

I had an idea similar to this once, where the spirit of one of the soul gems (like the one who taught the Arcane Warrior specialization) was placed in a willing host so he could share his knowledge.

NO PREVIOUS COMPANIONS.

I'm fine with the inclusion of previous NPCs as companions (Cullen, Cassandra, et al), and the inclusion of previous companions as NPCs (Leliana, Varric, et al).

But I want all new companions for my all new hero.
