The Academy for Modding Excellence is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2009 Veteran Author Award for Neverwinter Nights 2!
  • Azenn -- Azenn won the AME's Debut Author Award in 2009 for Asphyxia. He's now earned a Veteran Author nomination as well for his 2009 module, Live Forever -- a story based module with thought-provoking ideas and entertaining characters.
  • John McA -- John McA released the module Hyborean Hack in 2009. A prolific "crossover" author from NWN1, his Conan Chronicles modules were notable for their excellent storytelling and sense of drama.
  • Markus "Wayne" Schlegel -- A prolific author of both NWN1 and NWN2 modules, Markus released the NWN2 module Lolthanchwi in 2009. He has also been recognized for his excellent NWN2 work in the past with the 2007 GDA for Most Replayable module for Pool of Radiance Remastered.
Congratulations to all of the finalists! The finals review for this category should be complete and the winners announced at the end of September.

The Academy for Modding Excellence is actively recruiting for new members to help us in our mission to give recognition to the content creators who keep this great community alive. Thanks to those of you who have already
answered our Call for Volunteers, three of our NWN2 2010 Awards categories have now been able to enter
the finals: Veteran Author, Best Storytelling Module of 2009, and Best Roleplaying Module of 2009-2010. In the coming days and weeks we'll be posting the rest of the finalists for those awards, new categories as they are identified, and, of course, the winners.

We do, however, need just a little more help. In particular, we need at least one or two more active NWN2 members to reach the "critical mass" of voters and nominators required to get the NWN2 awards fully back on track again.
Right now, for example, we have six additional NWN2 categories that are near or on the verge of qualifying for the finals, needing just one or two more votes or nominations to complete our review. So if you are an avid NWN2 player, modder or reviewer, and think you might be interested in helping with the AME's mission to give recognition to the
content creators who keep this great community alive, then please feel free to contact me (andarian at ame-gda dot net) about joining or learning more about the AME panel. :)

The Academy for Modding Excellence is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2009 – 2010 best RPG Award for Neverwinter Nights 2!

The finalists are:

Dark Waters 3

Trinity

The Maimed God Saga

The finals review for this category should be complete and the winners announced at the end of September.

These are all very good modules and deserving of a finals place, congratulations to all the authors. I hope you are seeing this post to know your efforts are being recognised. Many of the people who are reading this post know the effort you must have put in to bring work of this quality to a conclusion.

Some of you may also be reading this a nd saying Nooooo! How can they vote that stuff over "Day of the Donkey"?
Some of you may see our eventual winner in September and say Noooo! Do these people have brains? Posted Image

If that's the case you realy only have yourselves to blame since the AME is open to all players and is in need of a few more people to help with voting and nominating. I don't think we are getting it too far wrong (except perhaps for too few nominations for me Posted Image) but the more there are in the group the better our community will be represented in the voting.

In case you need any more prompting, you should know that there are way more active NWN players in there than NWN2. As the newer game format I thought us NWN2 players might be better represented.

As Andarian stated in his first post there are a few categories for NWN2 that are close to coming to the finals. A few more NWN2 players should get these moving; or perhaps they won't! Perhaps you have another worthy candidate in mind for consideration for an award? Maybe the Donkey shall have it's day.

PJ

I don't know what you are talking about PJ, Day of the Donkey was excellent. The only thing better was the prequel, Morning with Mugwumps.

I have a question. Some of the categories are "2009 best something", and some are "2009-2010 best something". Are they all really 2009-2010, or are the 2009 categories also going to have a 2010 award?

/puts more mods on the need to play list.

Kaldor Silverwand's SoZ make-over additions for the OC and MotB should be nominated for something, in recognition of the amount of work and service to the NWN2 community.

Harumph!

@Kamal: That's a good question. Usually, the years are split, but sometimes there aren't enough modules/nominations for a split category. For example, 2009 had a good amount of storytelling or action modules, but not so much roleplaying ones.

Also, we don't have a lot of NWN2 members at the AME, more members should mean more nominations and probably more split categories. So, if someone wants to join...

These are only the finalists, there are other nominees that didn't make it to the finals, and some categories are still waiting for finalists.

I agree that Kaldor's work is a great addition to the community, but I'm not sure if the makeovers would qualify as they're modifications of the OC and not the typical modules. I know it was discussed at some point, but I don't remember what was decided in the end. His other modules (King's Festival, etc) are definitely qualifiable as candidates.

The 2009 categories will have a separate 2010 award, but any multi-year (e.g. 2009-2010) categories that have already gone to the finals won't. When a category ends the year without enough nominations to move to the finals, we merge it with the following year's awards and carry it forward as a multi-year award. That happened to all of our 2009 awards last year, and it's one of the unfortunate consequences of our not having enough NWN2 member volunteers to do them justice. So when 2010 ended and 2011 began, the still-open 2009 categories were merged into combined 2009-2010 awards.

Best Storytelling and Veteran Author 2009 were rescued from that fate by the heroic efforts of our new and returning NWN2 members (including Ark, who's been an outstanding contributor), who responded to my "Call for Volunteers" in June. For those two categories, we got enough new last-minute 2009 nominations before the review deadline to split those categories back out into their separate years. Some of our other awards, though, may still end up being delayed or awarded as combined year awards unless we can get one or two more member volunteers to help out. NWN2 Best Action Module of 2009, for example, only needs one more nomination to qualify for the finals as a separate category. :)

That sounds like a great argument for joining the AME panel, Dorateen. ;) If you did, you could nominate him yourself.

Agreed. Makeovers would be more likely to be considered under "Community Contribution" (another category that's in danger of being awarded as multi-year without more nominations, by the way) than under modules. That's not necessarily a hard rule, though, and there can be flexibility if someone makes a good case for nominating one under one of the modules categories.

news update from The Academy for Modding Excellence:

I’m pleased to announce that thanks to a continuing positive response from the community (as well as tireless recruiting efforts from some of our current staff), we have been able to add several new members during the course of 2012. We have about a dozen now supporting the NWN2 awards, and as I suggested in some of my previous announcements, this marks an important milestone for the AME...

"As a result, we expect to see a new stream of nominations and awards for those previous years (as well as for some current ones) from the AME in the coming months."

Hey, I'm glad I checked in! I know I've been off doing other things at the moment, but it's an honor to be a finalist in such lofty company. Hopefully it will get more people downloading and playing our mods (and commenting/voting/endorsing them too!).

The Academy for Modding Excellence is pleased to announce the finalists for the NWN2 2010-2011 Debut Author Award!

NWN2 2010-11 Debut Author Finalists

Kamal (for Path of Evil)

“Villains have to start somewhere.” This is the motto of Path of Evil, where you play the unusual role of the villain of the story, from the humble begginings to the rise in power, until you become a serious menace to the realms.

Path of Evil is a huge sandbox module where you can do evil deeds while you explore the whole map of Faerun. Unlike in many other modules, you are the one who creates the story, always a step forward of the heroes who are trying to stop you. It also allows the player to be evil in an intelligent and manipulative way, rather than the usual psychopatic, mass-murderous one.

Matt Rieder (for The Wizard’s Apprentice)

As its name implies, the first installment in Matt Rieder’s acclaimed trilogy narrates - often in a Python-esque style - the story of a young wizard student and his/her early adventure days. Class-specific as it is, the module features a good deal of wizard-related content, as well as challenging combat and an increasingly complicated plot.

Shaughn78 (for Risen Hero)

Risen Hero is a story-driven module that carries the protagonist on a journey of self-discovery, from a mysterious beginning to an epic ending against a world-shattering threat. All along the way, the player has the opportunity to recruit an unusually high number of companions, as well as completing quests through stealth, smooth talking, or in many other different ways, making this one of the most replayable modules of its year.

Congratulations to all the finalists!

The Academy for Modding Excellence is actively recruiting for new members. If you are an avid NWN2 player, modder or reviewer, and think you might be interested in helping with the AME's mission to give recognition to the

The Academy for Modding Excellence is pleased to announce the 2009 thru 2011 Winners of the NWN2 Debut Author Award!

NWN2 2009-2011 Debut Author Winners

NWN2 2009 Debut Author: Tsongo (for Serene)

This module, the first of three to date, has you playing the role of the younger sibling of your sister, Serene. The module opens with you following in her footsteps, initiating into the Order of the Moon — a group of monks who, you hope, will give you training, a life outside the small village you live in and a chance to see your sister again. Things don’t turn out the way you hoped, and you soon find yourself embroiled in a tale of deception and revenge — locked on a twisting path that you hope will lead you to your lost sister, before it is too late.

Serene is a strong first module and has been well recieved by the community at large. It is a linear, story led, module which takes you through a number of environments in your quest to find Serene. The areas are well made and the story well thought out, and the pace of the module keeps the player interested all along the way. It has good, well fleshed out NPCs and companions, and a challenging set of enemies to fight along the way. All in all a worthy first module and winner of the 2009 Debut Author award.

NWN2 2010-2011 Debut Author: Shaughn78 (for Risen Hero)

Risen Hero is a story-driven module that carries the protagonist on a journey of self-discovery, from a mysterious beginning to an epic ending against a world-shattering threat. All along the way, the player has the opportunity to recruit an unusually high number of companions, as well as completing quests through stealth, smooth talking, or in many other ways, making this one of the most replayable modules of its year.

Congratulations to the winners!
