I'm worried that ME3 will be like this: where members of your squad constantly rotate due to death, where entire worldes are destroyed adn you can't do every mission and you HAVE to do the missions at the bottom of the map first since the Reapers will be constantly working their way up. Also, sidemissions will cancel out story missions and prevent you from getting teh good ending unless you do them last, as will visiting shops.

Anybody worry that ME3 will be this dark?

Bioware said its gonna get darker and also funnier at same time. But I don't want it to get darker as in lot of squad mates dying. I got very close to the characters in ME universe. Last thing I want to see is them dying specially because there is not squad mate that I really hate.

PS: you make a lot of threads don't you?

I'm not against squadmates dying if it is done in a tasteful way. Killing someone for the "lulz" to show how "dark" your story is would be lame.

I hope they show the devastation and might of the Reapers. We have had two games of build up; I want to see Harbinger and co reap and reap hard.

Yeah, it's mostly squad deaths that bug me, particularly if there are a lot of them. I think that I'll just stop playing if either Garrus or Jack die an unavoidable death.

HAHA! I will have to stop playing if Tali dies because my shepard will shoot himself and there is nothing I can do about it.

Actually, based on the talk of "consequences" for cheating on your ME1 lover all the ME2 LIs are probably scripted to die no matter what you do. I'm just saying.

I honestly think the whole ''darker but funnier'' claim is not a pleasant one to hear. The Reapers are here. It should be dark, and dead serious. This is a war against impossible odds, against total annihilation not just for us, but all organic life. I don't want a freaking black comedy. Anyway, fingers crossed that it will be funny to a minimum.

by this point i'm sick and tired of all kinds media trying to be too dark, too serious or all grey.
in a choice driven game i don't want to be forced to pick either dark/darker
not just grey either, i want the whole spectrum to choose from Black, White and Grey.

pick the dark type of choices if you're the kind of people who want a dark outcome.
pick the grey type of choices if you're the kind of people who want a bittersweet outcome.
pick the white type of choices if you're the kind of people who want a happy outcome.
or pick a mix to have your own custom outcome.

I know I might be hated for saying this but I would like to see a death like Kat from halo reach. It added a feel of: holy crap these people can die so easily I'm sad now. maybe not to a squamate but maybe a planet or a race. thoughts?

Oh no, mass organic extinction is a happy event, no sadness, nah war is a happy place to be with your family and friends.

Well they considered ME2 as "much darker game than it's predecessor", and while i agree, it was still an epic and fun journey.

And considering that Casey said that ME3 is the biggest game out of the entire trilogy several times i don't think they'd restrict our freedom of exploration or side quests just because there is a sense of urgency.

We're going to have to agree to disagree about that one. I thought ME2 was pretty dark, but I absolutely loved the gallow's humor that Garrus and Joker added at every opportunity. That 'laughing in the face of almost certain annihilation' is one of the reasons I love Garrus so much.

ME3 will probably be the darkest in the series, but I'm hoping for some funny down time periods in the game. Maybe Shepard and friends will go to a pool party or something?...ok, maybe not but I'm hoping for some humour to remain. I mean, take the whole Joker and EDI thing; its the little things that can make the game more entertaining.

I doubt it will be any more darker than ME2. Dragon Age: Origins was supposedly dark, but it wasn't really dark at all. In that game, you had to gather an army for the blight, but you could still do side-quests, have romance, and do a bunch of other "distractions" from the main story without consequences.

Yes, i'd like Mass Effect 3 to be the darkest of the series. I want to see death, destruction, sorrow, tears and struggle.
On the other hand, being dark, sad and just that is simply unnatural. People joke, even in the most dire situations, we smile even through tears.
So, i'm looking forward to hearing "Just like the old days, huh Shepard? Only this time there's a whole lot of them... A whole, whole lot."

I love those three, but even if I knew one or all of their deaths were unavoidable it wouldn't stop me from playing the game. I'd trust Bioware to do them justice.

I mean they die regardless of your intereactions wiht them. Garrus dies no matter what even though he's a fan favorite.

I wouldn't like to see so many squad members die in ME3 but I do want it to be believable. We're dealing with a race of sentient machines who have systematically exterminated all intelligent life in the galaxy for millions upon millions of years. Shepard and crew getting off easily with virtually no losses would be a major "Yeah, right<_<" moment for me. Obviously those moments are bad for the gaming experience. So dark moments, Yes. Unpreventable deaths, sure as long as I can still somehow make sure certain characters will survive. Scripted death of squadmembers, No.

But then it's not "dark." Choosing who dies instead of having tro deal with constant loss in every mission is lame. At any rate, after reading the Russian article I'm convinced that Jack is a temp adn she dies a scripted death.

I doubt it will be all that bleak. Originally Bioware said it would have more humor, so...

I'm not saying I want to really chose who dies. I'd rather have something like the ME2 suicide mission where the team splits up. Say Shepard and 2 others head into reaper base through the southern entrance, 3 others (Lead by VS) and 2 others Shepard chooses) take the northern entrance. Trouble ensues late in the mission which causes 1 of the people (randomly chosen) in VS squad to get killed. This has both drama and allows people to keep certain people alive by not sticking them on that team.

Do note I don't want to see missions like these become an instrument for people to get rid of unwanted squaddies (plenty of weirdos who hate fictional characters so much they want to purposely kill them) so add something to prevent that I'd say.

Nah, I want it bleak... I want it to be hell, I don't even want to win in the end. But I know I wont get that unless I try to fail which defeats the point. I want friends and loved ones to die I want scorched earth and horror and anguish, this is supposed to be a massive struggle, the reapers have reaped many, many tmes they should be fairly good at it by now.

But then I enjoy that sort of theme.

As for the OPs concerns I doubt going to the shop or even the majorty of doing side quests would adversely affect you, seems counter-intuitive to make content that most people would skip if they wanted to 'win'.

Can never go wrong with gallows humour atleast though.
