Hi, I'm Will, and I bought Dragon Age Origins earlier today for the 360, and loaded in the disk.
When I tried to start a new game, it said I did not have enough space for a file, when I clearly do! This has really frustrated me but I don't want to take the game back. I suspect it may be a problem with the disc, but I am not sure/
Please can someone help? It would be very helpful!
Game will not save! Help!

Could be several things. First thing I would recommend is check your HD first: connections and actual space available.
EDIT: there is something that mentions no hard drive connected. Never have been sure what solution there is.

I don't have a hard drive as of yet, but I'm hoping to get one soon. The space required for a saved game is 17 mb, and I have easily more than that.

For whatever reason your console disagrees with your assessment; the key is to find out why that is the case. What sort of storage are you using? Is it formatted correctly? Does the game require more space for saves than just the save file space? (Sometimes when storage space is limited things might not work at optimum efficiency for example.)

I'm using a 256 mb memory card at the minute and I've not much of that left, around 30 mb? It might not even be enough space, and I have to have a hard drive for it?

Bigger storage certainly; ideally a hard drive. 256MB is paltry for today's standards really.
Given that there are autosaves in Dragon Age and that each save file is indeed 14MB, then you will need at least 34. It would seem you are too close to that limit. Perhaps it truly is the case that you wouldn't have enough storage space for your save games.
Also, given the possibility of things going wrong in a game like DAO, it's best to have a set of 'rolling saves' in case you have to go back to an earlier one. If you just have the one save file and something goes wrong, then your entire game is, to all extent, lost.
At least that's how I see your situation.

So I just need a hard drive then, or clear out some more space?
I would see how a hard drive is needed, but I hardly have enough money for it, and my birthday/christmas is rather far away.

Christmas isn't that far away. A couple of stores here in the UK have already started their Christmas promotions according to the papers. *Cough*
More seriously though, depends what you have available to you. I'm sure a 20 GB secondhand HD is pretty cheap to pick up. (Though 'cheap' is relative of course.) But certainly 256MB is inadequate. I'm sure you don't want to lose your game saves either. Could you perhaps afford a 360 compatible USB drive?
