hi guys, I've read the specs, but just want to clarify.

What are the forums thoughts on an HP DV7-1020ea running Win 7 on handling DA:O.  I am still debaing whether to go the laptop route (so I can play it in study), or Xbox (but the i take up the TV from wife and child).

Could you post your systems specs, so we don´t have to google your laptop?

You know, if you can't be bothered to post in one of the scores of other spec threads going around, you could at least post your actual specs.

Yes and most likely will be able to do it maxed out, or close.

Medium. That slow DDR2 as video RAM isn't helping.

that was my concern. I don't want to get it and then have the experience compromised by having a sub-standard set-up. Maybe the Xbox is the way forward

Consoles don't really offer much better graphics than PC's medium. Perhaps only slightly better due to fewer enemies showing on the screen.

You reckon that it would be ok on medium then? I would prefer the PC version, as it means I can scoot off and not hog the main TV from family

Don´t forget the community made mods too, which you will most likely only get for the PC-version. So if it´s possible to play on a PC go for it.

decisions, decisions ... unfortunately looks like I will go 360 simply because of guaranteed playability

Your laptop will play it fine.

To clarify; you'll be using medium texture settings (so is the xbox) and medium shaders/lighting (so is the xbox).  Lower what you need to make it faster.  Keep in mind that the 9600m is on par with what the 360 has if not better and the T8400 is a rather high-end laptop processor compared to most of the crap at Best Buy.

ok - it is tempting to have it on the PC. Oh hell I'm going for the PC route. It is how RPG's were meant to be played

I've played about 30 min on my laptop and I think you will be fine. Here are my specs
ATI 3670 512MB DDR3 your card is a bit faster/better than mine
C2D 2.4Ghz P8600
6GB DDR3 RAM
Windows 7 64bit

Playing it at 1920x1080 resolution full screen, with textures on low and graphics setting at medium in the first area I"m getting around 38FPS according to FRAPS.

Now if I lower it to 1280x720 then it jumps to around 60-70 keeping the same settings. I prefer native screen resolution so I don't mind playing at medium settings. At 720P I could play on high or extra but the 1080P crisp resolution, IMO, makes up for the lower graphical setting. One thing though, this thing makes the laptop hot, fans 100% lol so get a good cooler. I have AS5 paste + undervolted and a cooler so my temps are down but the fans are still running.

Oh and after 30mins of game time, I can see NO WAY I could play this properly on a console.. it's like wtf how can one even enjoy this on a console if you were able to play (even at med settings) on a PC. enjoy! finally p.s. I don't want to hog the HDTV either so that's another reason I'm on PC. sorry for the long post.

No, this is great, thanks for the data point.

no problem. Played in the Dwarf casteless starting area today messing around with the settings some more. At full screen 1920x1080 graphical: med textures: high I still got around 25-38, running around in circles I averaged like 33,34FPS. At 720 same settings I still get around 60-70FPS. So for me, textures don't bring down the FPS much but more so the graphical details. It's hard to tell in starting areas, but I can't see much of a difference between med/high, but certainly some change from low/med. So if you can, run at least medium, you'll be happy. I can't see the 360 doing any better graphically.

Crickey - the reviews for XBOX and PS3 don't seem that great - maybe the PC (even on medium) is the best bet

Like I've said on many threads... I just can't see how this game can be fully played on a console... it's a PC game at heart, from the ground up.

I've got a feeling your grpahics card set-up will let you down and allow only very low settings at best
