Okay, I have no idea who to kill because Ashly is a religeuos xenophobe who thinks aliens are scum, but she's cute at times and I can bang her, and Kaiden is more likeable and definetly more usefull but he's so bland it hurts.

Whom should I leave to die?

Try multiple play throughs, and do both. However, I generally felt as follows:-
1) is my character romantically interested in either? If so, this is a no brainer. Otherwise...
2) if my character is a soldier type, save Kaiden. If not, save Ashley. Basically, two or more pure solders in a party while effective, is boring.
3) If I am something else, save Ashley. I like to play a Sentinel, so have a soldier like Ashley to go on point is good.
4) Kaiden is a more tortured soul, and continually suffers from his L2 implants. I think Ashley is capable of enjoying life more. Note: this is not a good reason if consciously used to let someone die. Thin end of the wedge....

What better reason to keep her alive?
I'd save her definately. Also Ashley is a warrior, whereas Kaiden is a mix of Tali and Liara, and not needed unless you yourself are an adept using Wrex

The whole xenophobe is pretty much nonsense.  She is somewhat careful about them, but if you bring her along on the Citadel later, she is opposed to Terra Firma, and is very anti Cerberus.  Kaiden is not terribly bland it's just like he said he's already worked through his problems, he doesn't need Shep to "fix him"

If in doubt just make a save before you have to make the choice and play it both ways.

On my first playthrough I got a certain party member killed by Ashley.
Needless to say the choice wasn't very hard at that point who would die next. *grin*

why is everyone so butt hurt about Ashley, i played ME1 like 6 times and she came across as super religious or a complete xenophobe. She still works with aliens squad mates and have convos with them at times.
