I've put twenty-six hours into this game so far, although half of it has probably been because of restarting battles. What's interesting, and confusing, is that I'm still not sure if I am playing right.

I rolled a warrior and am duel-wielding. However, I am level twelve and yet I am still off-handing a dagger. I go and check out all the merchants, but all the weapons are main-handers, besides daggers. Where can I get swords or axes that I can off-hand?

I'm also playing on normal. This has posed a problem for me during some battles, which seem ridiculously hard. At least hard for my intended level. I know of the patch, but I hear that the patch has screwed up some games for some people. Should I download it?

The difficulty issue leads into my next point -- character selection. Some characters are just too good in comparison to others. I know that if I take Wynne, Morrigan, and Allistar, I can basically take on anything (I put points into heal for Morrigan, so I can pretty much spam heal between those spellcasters). It bothers me though that I can't take a rogue along to unlock boxes. This is about as far as, say, Leliana, usefulness goes, though. I can get so much out of the Wynne-Morrigan combo in terms of chain CC and heal that I don't even need a rogue (My warrior does adequate damage). This is a problem with me because it doesn't lead into an incentive to take along other members of my party. Any thoughts on this?

Lastly, the combat tatics. I really don't like them. They work fine for automatically healing when my characters go below a certain point, but otherwise seem limited. Intricate commands are not supported, or at the very least, smart ones. For instance, I want my archer to use Critical Shot as soon as possible on the nearest enemy, however, if there is a mage I want her to target him instead of the nearest enemy. Maybe I just haven't toyed with it enough. Also, is there a way to make it so my melee characters won't rush into battle when I'm sniping a group with my ranged attacks? I've tried turning off the combat tatics for them, which works, but then they just stand there and do nothing until I manually direct them. It's very annoying.

Thanks for any responses.

To get the off-hand weapons you need Dual Wield Mastery It think it is. It's the last of a skill-chain.

I only found this out yesterday as well. It's given me the incentive to start a dual wield character.

You need to max out the top duel wielding chain to duel wield one handers.
