Disclaimer: I've only played through Legacy once (so far), so my experience is limited. I played through with Anders (LI) in the party, postgame save. The Hawke character was predominantly "diplomat" personality, with some snark.
1) a) With respect to cinematics that threw me, as a player, out of the game, in a bad way: There are at least two scenes where Anders begins to lose control and begs for help from Hawke ("his love"). Hawke just stands there and looks a bit bored; in the latter one, he stands a bit to the side, and the point of view is at Anders, looking up at Hawke. It felt disconnected.
Based on the writing of DA2 (and how the interaction between diplomat Hawke and Anders as LI in that game), it felt bizarre Hawke would stand several feet away, at a distance, from a person with whom he/she was in a touchy-feely-kissy relationship.
I thought, "Are you KIDDING me? You can't even touch the guy on the shoulder or something? Lame."
With respect to cinematics that threw me, as a player, out of the game, in a good way: There's a moment before Hawke enters the Carta area, where he and Varric joke about it all being a big mistake on the Carta's part to target Hawke, they really meant to target Locke. Then Warden Carver jumps in with a snide remark about Hawke, and there's this long.... silent.... glance exchanged between Hawke and Varric, that pretty much says, "Oh, can you believe this guy?!"
I thought, "Oh that is just AWESOME!" jumped up out of my chair and did a fist pump. (I can't stand Carver.)
... I guess it just means that cinematics chuck you out of the immersion when the player has very defined feelings about a character... This post is probably not what you were looking for as feedback, Mr. Epler. Apologies.
The bolded part ties in with ImoenBaby's earlier post about "inappropriately neutral" cinematics, and yes, I was also thrown off by Hawke's blank face during the scene where Anders freaks out. I'm not sure what the solution is, but as it is, it doesn't really work for a Hawke who is romancing or friendly with Anders. I did like the new camera angles in the scene-especially the shot of Anders getting up afterwards as the blue cracks vanish.
Cinematic bits I enjoyed in Legacy included: Hawke and Varric glancing at each other after Carver's attempt at a joke, Carver and Hawke's staredown after finishing the Malcolm's Will quest, and the final scene with the surviving sibling, Gamlen, and the echo of Leandra.
And I have no idea who came up with the "Carver jig," but I can't wait to see that in my own Legacy playthrough instead of just seeing it on YouTube. That is golden.
The Anders kiss scene was amazing, and the romance scenes in general were a vast improvement from Origins. There's a great moment in Merrill's scene right after she says, "Here in Hightown?...With an elf?" The camera cuts to Hawke (male, in my case), who just smiles in a "You know it!" sort of way, which I thought was brilliant, especially for my sarcastic Hawke. I also liked Hawke running his hand up and down Merrill's arm.
The character introductions in DA2 were fantastic and also great examples of showing and not telling. Anders' and Isabela's scenes are particularly effective for those who played Origins and Awakening, because they show just how much those two characters have or have not changed.
Ever since I watched Nathaniel hug Delilah in Awakening, I have wished for the option to hug companions. I'm not sure if it's feasible to be able to hug them at any time or place the player wants,- but it would be nice to, for example, have the opportunity to hug Merrill after the Keeper dies.
I miss the deathblows from Origins, but am glad the final deathblow in Legacy takes different weapons into account. I can't wait to see what the archery one looks like. Also, the new mage deathblow for ogres is pretty sweet.
I really like the companions' facial expressions. Kudos to whoever worked on Anders-it seems like he has a ton of different expressions.
