In ME1 Shepard is working for the Council rather than the Alliance wich makes him/her technicaly not a part of the human military anymore. Followed by two years considered dead. And then there was this working for everyones enemy Failberus in ME2...

So no, I can't see any climbing of military ranks for Shepard but then again he/she don't need it anymore.

You a wrong partly in ME 1 Admiral Hackett told Shepard that although he/she is a spectre now but still part of the Alliance. so if the Alliance want to promote him they can.

His rank is Commander ****ing Shepard. That is the only rank that exists.

They gave one to Alenko, who was a staff lieutenant in ME1 but a Commander in ME2. Shepard only saved the cidatel and the council (at least for me) and stopped the collectors from abducting entire human colonies. If thats not worthy of one promotion, then Alenko must have been busy in the 2 years shepard was being brought back to life.

What do you think?

The trial is actually a farce and it'll actually be a surprise party for making a 4 star general! booyah! :wizard: /sarcasm

In Thalis Flotilla Mission (ME2), Shepard becomes a friendly welcome with the Title "Captain".
(Only if you don't have Legion on your side)
Then he answers that he is technically no part of the alliance anymore and his last rank was "Commander".
But then the Quarians said to him that he is a Captain in the Rank of the Flotilla, because he is the leader of his own starship.
Maybe like Captain (Sergeant) Reynolds from the Firefly Serenity in some way.

At the end of the Earth demo, apparently Anderson tosses Shepard his dog tags and welcomes him back to the Alliance military. I'm thinking Shepard should just be grateful he isn't in front of a firing squad.

Beat me to it.

Chew on this one, "You know, you might make a fine general yourself one day." General Septimus to Cmdr. Shepard.

Kind of bugs me that the Quarians are the only ones who understand that anyone in command of a vessel is to be referred to as Captain.

i know this is an old thread but i just thought of something, shouldn't shepard have gotten a posthumous promotion anyway as he/she was presumed dead for two years after the collector incident? makes sense that he/she would be bumped up a rank or two but i highly doubt this will happen in 3 because everyone is so familiar with "commander" it's become his/her first name
