So I finally got the DLC (yay!) but for some reason when I got to the part where Vasir takes a hostage I was unable to use the paragon choice when it showed up. I was a level 30 Shep and had completed every assignment possible with full paragon. Any idea how much I need to be able to use it? Do I need to not have my paragon/renegade bar maxed out?

It's from how the calculation is made.

Having the class Passive that gives a 100% boost helps.

But, these threads should help you figure out what you can try to do: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/2907273

Thanks, but I had already read that, which is why I'm wondering why even with full paragon I was unable to choose that option, considering that the DLC is supposed to be played after the SM.

It sounds like a glitch. Try saving, and reloading.

Makes more sense to play the DLC before the Suicide Mission honestly.

LotSB is supposed to be played BEFORE the Suicide Mission. I don't want to spoil you anything, just play it and you will realise that you are wrong.

I don't think there's any good time to play it, considering the Shadow Broker's dialogue differs depending on whether you've completed the SM yet.

Yeah, that.  Play it whenever you wish.  There is no "doing it wrong" here.

"Like many of our missions, you can do the Shadowbroker DLC before or after the suicide mission. However, because we understood that most players would be coming to this after the suicide mission, we weighted the dialog much more heavily toward the assumption that the player had already completed it."

Mass Effect 2 writing team

"You CAN do it before you do the suicide mission, but you'll get a different (and possibly more flavorful) reaction if you play it after."

Choosing to drop your clips has the same impact as using the Paragon choice. Since all either does is ad 15 Paragon points, does it really matter all that much if you can't get it to trigger?

While it's true we assumed most people playing LotSB would be doing so after the main campaign, it's just as legitimate to go on the mission beforehand. It's up to you. (I think there's some advantages to both, myself)

Just wondering, do the daily deliveries happen to include any upgrades you may have missed?

No.  They're in addition to the ones in the main game.

had a bug doing that, can't ask liara about Samara, and the data pad in her office isn't telling me to talk to Dana, so can't recruit Samara :(

That's apparently a pretty common bug. If you want to do the LotSB stuff before recruiting Thane or Samara, make sure you ask Liara about them in the dialog *before* asking if she wants to go get the Shadow Broker. That will register those missions to your journal and you'll be good to go.

That said, I've done LotSB both before and after the suicide mission, and I must say I vastly prefer doing it before, especially considering the extra features it brings after its completion. I usually do the whole mission when I first get to Ilium (my Shepard romanced Liara and stayed loyal, so it is sensible for her to make seeing Liara her first priority after finding out she's there), making sure to talk about Thane and Samara to avoid the bug, and making sure to do all of Liara's little missions on Ilium. Then I'll take advantage of the benefits of having completed the main LotSB mission for the rest of the game, and finally invite Liara aboard the Normandy for drinks just before the derelict Reaper mission. Since I've done everything else beforehand, that's pretty much the start of the endgame run for me (though I prefer to do Arrival, if I must, after the SM).

It all of course depends on your particular Shepard's story personality, but I've found that kind of play through works best for mine.
