Mass Effect 2: at the end of ME1 Shepard has the intention to stop the Reapers, and at the start of ME2, he/she gets killed(i'm gonna keep saying he for simplicity sake), so.... after that, a Character, THAT WE HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF, just tells the Allience"i will stop the Reapers".
it would be dumb(imo), because who the hell is this guy?
why is he doing this?etc...

At the end of ME1, Shepard didn't stop the reapers. At the end of ME3, if the reapers are stopped and a potential ME4 has a new protagonist stopping some other threat, that wouldn't be a big deal.

Sure, some people might **** that it should be Shepard solving every problem in the galaxy... but that doesn't mean Shepard's story isn't finished.

i know, i Apologize for my bad wording, English is not native lenguage and i have a bad tendency to...EAT words(for the lack of a better word).

What i MEANT to say was:
in ME1, Shepard has the intention to stop the Reapers, and at the beginning of ME2, he still has that intention, but at the beginning of ME2, he gets killed, so..... after that, A CHARACTER THAT WE HAVEN'T SEEN OR EVEN HEARD OF, comes out of nowhere and he's all like "i will stop the Reapers".
it's stupid, it's Deus Ex Machina, right up our asses.
because, why? who is he? why is he doing this?etc....

Truth be told, all my wardens are dead to me. If its Hawke (who has not been replaced as the maine hotshot yet) then I will be fine, if its a new char I will be happy.

I like the idea of a new character, although I would rather play as my canon warden again.

I know what devs have said, but I sincerely doubt about Hawke not being a [failed] attempt to create a Shepard. If DA2 wouldn't have been received as bad as it was, I'm sure devs wouldn't be saying that line about "different character for new games"

As much as I dislike new game- new character idea, it has always been said with new games, comes new main, the dev had always said is about Thedas not the hero's.
To me it sux to have to start with new hero, but I always knew and to anyone wondering why I don't play Me2, I don't like to shoot things, I like to stab, stab things.

Just remember when da3 is announce I'll be here, I'll read you're posts just as I read about Da2, I do not want the dev's to destroy Hawke the same way they did to the warden but when the time comes, they'll have a larger numbers to agree with them. Can't wait for that to tell the truth. rofl am such a B...:D

Mike Laidlaw wrote...

Since I'm in a sharing mood, I will put this out there: our intention is that for each major release of Dragon Age, you will take up the mantle of a new character. This does not mean your old character may never appear in future games, but as far as the core protagonist goes, if there is a DA III, it will very likely be neither Hawke nor The Warden.

We want to keep the series about the time and place, rather than about any singular character. While I know not everyone prefers that approach, I believe it's perfectly valid, especially if certain plans of ours to shore up world consistency (import bugs really bother me!) come to fruition, which I believe they will.

And that's all I can say about that.

First, for those os us now familiar with the term 'shore up', I found this:

http://grammar.ccc.c...mmarlogs288.htm

On this site is this question:

I did something to strengthen my position. Did I "sure" up my position or "shore" up my position?

The answer is this:

You have tried to "shore up" your position.

Just as FYI - I have never heard this expression before Laidlaw used this.

and now to something completely different - the comment:

I've long suspected this, why this is, I don't really know (that I suspected is, I mean). This would, imo, mean that each DA-game will be set in the same universe with a different protagonist. However, it seems to me that leaving the question unaswered as to what happened to Hawke or The Warden might not be a very good idea....

edit:

Morrigan's God Baby - We all want to see the fate of Morrigan.

I think, so long as we're a new PC, this plot is best left to the Warden or best not touched at all. I don't want to see Morrigan or the OGB shoved into some story for the sake of shoving them in. Again, I think much of the emotional engagement in certain companions and stories is as much in how the respective PC plays a role in things than the companions themselves.

Thats not to say Morrigan shouldn't or couldn't show up without the Warden but especially if the Warden went the Eluvian route the writers would have a pretty high bar to pass in my mind to justify why the Warden wouldn't be there with Morrigan and his kid. Sure, they could just off screen kill off or sideline the Warden, but I think they should only bring back old companions, especially LIs, whether its in a cameo or other role, if they're going to do a fantastic job in making sure the import is working right and they react to their past with the old PC.

Otherwise, just put new characters with a new PC. If they want to bring back old companions in a big way, bring back the old PC to maximize the player's connection to that story.

I don't want to see Morrigan again, if it to have the same mess as Anders. Many people will scream if it happens.

Morrigan is one of the pillar of DAO.  She is truly loved... This is something that transcends the series. I prefer not to see it at all.

I'd rather see new characters.

That's assuming that they'll butcher the appearances of these characters with another aesthetic redesign.

Honestly, I can easily see Morrigan's God Baby being the driving force that binds all these plot arcs I mentioned into a climatic conclusion.

But not everybody tiook that option, remember?

When are they gonna do something with Morrigan's son (if you chose to have one with her)?

Now I feel stupid xDDD Of course, I didn't know devs told that before the release ^_^

Even in this case, I am the only one who thinks (feels) that Hawke was an attempt to make a "Shepard"? And with that, I mean a solid, ever permanent, main character for future games.

Honestly, no, especially since the way the game is set in its narrative style, Bioware gains flexibility to tell parallel story tracks with other characters.

But note that Morrigan can never really die in DA:O so it doesn't matter whether you helped her or not. The only stretch in my theory is that Morrigan somehow discovered another means to seduce a poor, lonely Warden and finding the spirit of an old god before the events of Witch Hunt. Or we can assume that Morrigan was planning to use the Eluvian to do something similar etc. If you killed her in WH, what's stopping Flemeth from enacting Plan B in that event? (After all, this was all her idea).

So Morrigan or not, the God Baby can and probably will still have an interesting and important role to play.

Thankfully according to Gaider OGB is non-existant if the player didn't do it.

That's a retcon I could do without.

Well let's just hope Hawke doesn't pull a Shepard on us and star in every future DA game. :P

Hawke never did leave Kirkwall, did he? My guess is that he hides at Gamlen's house whenever the Seekers come by. lol

It's already been stated in this thread that Hawke won't be the !hero in da3. That doesn't mean we wont run into him/her, or have them be referenced, etc etc.. It just means we'll get to be someone -new-.

I am happy that we won't be playing Hawke in DA3. Problem is, I personally didn't like Hawke, Kirkwall or the story of DA2, but I did love Varric and Aveline. Losing Hawke, of course will mean a brand new set of companions. I will miss them, but really miss Varric and Bianca:(

You loved Aveline but didn't like Hawke?

Just... how

Aveline was one of the most unlikeable characters I've ever seen in a game

She was the best tank tho.

In this case, we must complete the story of the different protagonists. ( dlc, expansion or main game )

No more formats like the witch hunt unless that is useful to the next story, and it ends the story of the current hero in the same.

I'm sorry, I don't get your point ^_^u

Why DA2's narrative style favours your feeling of Hawke not being the "DA's Shepard"? I think Mass Effect (both titles) also gave wide room for parallel plots and characters, but at the same time, Shepard is made as clear main role. Just exactly the same thing you could say about Hawke, and his/her game's narrative.

I loved Aveline! She was a great character to me, staunch, stubborn, not afraid to call out those who are out of line, INCLUDING Hawke himself, and she she finds love on her own without swooning over the PC.

Morrigan will probably have a role to play, but not the God baby as it requires an Archdemon, not just an Old God, as an Old God is untainted, and won't transfer.

If they plan to have Hawke or Warden make a cameo in DA3 surely they could if wanted give us a choice at the character selection screen whether we want to play as Warden, Hawke or as a new protagonist since there are a lot of fans for all three. C'mon it can't be that hard to do that therefore you'd make everyone happy.

The difference is that ME focuses on one outcome, defeating the reapers, where as DA is and always has been about the history of Thedas. The Dragon Age games start in 9:30 Dragon. Origins ends in 9:31 and DA2 ends around 9:40, which means chronologically they've only got 60 more years to play with (from the end of DA2) if they were to go in a linear manner. Hawke is important and participates in watershed events, which is going to make creating a narritive interesting if they go linear, but with the time hopping in DA2, Bioware can fill in events in other parts of the world before the culmination. Hawke is the focus of DA2 connected products, and that might FEEL like they're trying to make Hawke the main character, but then how many people believed for a long time it was going to be the Warden who was going to be the main character of DA?

Hawke is important. He might not have been the driving force behind anything, but a man who becomes the rallying cry of the mage rebellion is important.  (for one example.)
