Do you think the Warden will be the main character for Dragon age 3?

They'd just find someone else to be the rallying cry if Hawke wasn't there.  It's clear that Hawke's actions had no actual effect, since everything happens just the same whichever side you pick.

Hawke is important?

Considering the state of Thedas post DA2, I'd say yeah, if only as a catalyst.

Apparently

...so if Orsino held off Meredith wouldn't he have just become the rallying cry?

Thing is without Hawke getting this group together at the beginning we have no idea what Kirkwall would be like. Possibly would have fallen to the Qunari, or Orisino could have been killed in the second act taking the city back without Hawke there. And of course the fact that Meredith would have probably not gone as nutty without the end circumstances of act one, which Hawke financed.

But that´s the thing really. that is the only reason hawke has a impact on a story, nothing else.
DA3 should be about what happens after origins and awakening more than DA2.

We want to learn about what happens with all former companions
How all actions shaped the storyline

That is why the warden is more suited than hawke as the main character in DA3

If you go to far with that sort of butterfly effect logic you can claim almost anyone is important.  It's hard for me to count someone as important for stopping an invasion that was pretty obviously doomed anyway and playing a - not obviously vital - role in an expedition that happened to retrieve an artifact which they weren't looking for and didn't know anything about.

I don't mind that Hawke and the Warden won't appear. The way I see it, it allows us to come up with endings for our characters, instead of the next game messing their lives up.

Except that only works if they don't go out of their way to tell you that their lives have been messed up, as they do with the Warden in DA2.

So be it Laidlaw. If you decide for them to reappear in future installments, please let them look decent.

On the expedition: had it not happened, Meredith would have not been driven over the edge by said artifact. That has a HUGE impact on the story, and the expedition couldn't have been financed without Hawke.

As for the invasion, we have no idea how it would have played out without Hawke. Would Aveline been Guard Captain? Would she have even gone to Kirkwall? That alone plays a major factor in what might have happened during the invasion. And what would have happened with Seamus Dumar? Would he have acted the same without Hawke's example? There are many examples of Hawke changing people's fortunes that trying to remove Hawke from the senario is difficult at best. It's like asking, what would have happened had Kennedy not been assasinated? Honestly, Kennedy's administration was plagued by problems, and he had one major success in the three years he was president and He didn't really bring it about (the Cuban Missile Crisis). Yet his presidency has become synomous with hope and with greatness. The American Camelot... History sometimes ends up annointing people who are in the wrong place at the wrong time.

And as for the idea that the artifact has no intrinsic value or has no effect because it wasn't specifically sought after, most of the great and terrible discoveries of the world have come from accidents. The discovery and sale of the artifact changed Kirkwall as well, as we don't know what would have happened without its' influence.

Since I'm in a sharing mood, I will put this out there: our intention is that for each major release of Dragon Age, you will take up the mantle of a new character. This does not mean your old character may never appear in future games, but as far as the core protagonist goes, if there is a DA III, it will very likely be neither Hawke nor The Warden.

We want to keep the series about the time and place, rather than about any singular character. While I know not everyone prefers that approach, I believe it's perfectly valid, especially if certain plans of ours to shore up world consistency (import bugs really bother me!) come to fruition, which I believe they will.

And that's all I can say about that.

Thank you. I like the idea of keeping the Age the main character. Kind of like Middle Earth in the Silmarillion. Many great stories with many great characters.

This is the reason I get all teary eyed whenever I walk out of the throne room in DA: Origins :D

Much as it saddens me to know that there won't be other major chapters in the Warden's and Hawke's story, I think it's the right thing to do.

Edited:
Worst news I have heard in along time.

I ask myself of the true reason behind that statement.
A development studio lives on the income of its games. So the reason is "Profit".
I guess, Dragon Age 3 will be developed over a period of 2 years, just like Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3.
But how can a sequel follow so soon its previous game. Well if most of the plots and most of their decisions are ignored.
In Dragon Age 2 was only a small number of plots from Dragon Age - Origins in use, only the most important.
To let you believe seemingly, that you customize your own game.
I have played with one of my DAO saves for 65h plus 15h with Awakening 1h GoA and 2h WH, I reach across to 83 hours of playtime.
So and how many influence has this Savedgame on Dragon Age 2 (60h playtime), My Warden (M!Amell) was named maybe 20 times and there are a few minor Quest changes(but not those Big Quest with possibly 1h playtime, no minor Quest's like get me this, do this or whatever, Quests that are fulfilled in an instant)
Just for the record, I played Dragon Age - Origins more than 10 times just like Mass Effect.
So and how many times I have played Dragon Age 2? 3 times! and Mass Effect 2 6 times!
And the reason for this, I don't know but the lack of feedback from the previous games has something to do with it.
Casey Hudson Executive Producer of the Mass-Effect-series once sat "That the player has to feel the consequences of his doing" Why not the consequences of another game.(related to Dragon Age 2 and hopefully Dragon Age 3)
So when my previous character has so little influence in the next game why care about him.
I mean I played 83 hours with my (M!Amell) he has suffered, loved and saved the World and all what Leliana is saying "he is dear to my heart" whow I can fell the emotion of the moment. And every person he has met in his journey has just one quote about him.
The same applies to Hawke what for fall in love with someone, help them with their problems and later you will never again have a conversation/dialogue with her/him or with any of your other companions.
(I mean a dialogue that you are controling, not that they never see each other anymore).

That's it for now
Please excuse grammatical errors, I was dismayed by these news and among other things, I'm tired after 24 hours awake!

Which is essentially what the alternate cannon tells us about the Warden - eveything happens pretty much in a similar way as if the Warden was there, and Alistair gets to Ft. Drakon himself... and then ****s up killing the archdemon.

So for all we know sans Hawke Meredith wins, and then there's no mage rebellion. It's the same kind of useless heroic protagonist that Bioware's been using in all their games.

Ok wait, Gaider says we aren't done with Hawke and then Laidlaw says DA3 will have a new character. Do I sense an expansion for DA2 with Hawke coming :D? I am pleased with this ^^

Race Customization should return since Thedas isn’t just populated by Humans then.

I dont think we'll ever see our Warden against outside of references, like you said DA3 will definitely be voiced and there are far too many variables interms of how he should sound like, you'd need to hire 3 actors per gender.. and that's just for one character, would be very expensive.. possible 4 considering city elves sound different compared to dwarves.

In all honesty, I like Hawke better than the Warden.  Can't quite put my finger on it but I like him.  Point is, I doubt DA3's protagonist will live up to your standards.  Call it a hunch, but I think you'll be hating on the next character too lol.

Just so long as no one's under the delusion that the warden is any more important.  Because in all honesty, when compared next to Hawke, the warden's accomplishments are pretty minor.  Sure, he/she stopped the 5th blight, but the warden wasnt at the heart of change in Thedas.  To put it into perspective, out of the two, who do you think the masses will be talking about in 100 years?  The random warden who happened to stop the 5th blight, or the man/woman who was at the crux of all change in Thedas?  I think the answer's pretty clear if you ask me.
