Do you think the Warden will be the main character for Dragon age 3?

Since I'm in a sharing mood, I will put this out there: our intention is that for each major release of Dragon Age, you will take up the mantle of a new character. This does not mean your old character may never appear in future games, but as far as the core protagonist goes, if there is a DA III, it will very likely be neither Hawke nor The Warden.

We want to keep the series about the time and place, rather than about any singular character. While I know not everyone prefers that approach, I believe it's perfectly valid, especially if certain plans of ours to shore up world consistency (import bugs really bother me!) come to fruition, which I believe they will.

And that's all I can say about that.

Very, very good news. As much as I like the Warden, I felt his/her story came to a definite conclusion, either at the end of Origins or Awakening. And since I never liked Hawke, I can't say I'm sorry to hear that DA3 won't feature him.

While I was hoping Hawke's story would be finished properly, its balanced by not ever wanting to see my Warden again. So a new protaganist seems fair.

But expansions are dead...

I won't complain if they are resuscitated of course.

I wonder who would voice that musketeer.

I don't see what would be so nonsensical about it. Part of me wanted to see Hawke's story continued for a while. A larger part of me would rather play a new character, this Seeker lots of people keep pushing. But I'm not going to tear down the part of me that wanted more Hawke just to make that other part more appealing.

It is very much appreciated that you would share this with us. One less thing for us all to fuss over. <3

(though I suppose we fuss over everything, regardless :P)

Continued criticism of Hawke's implementation might help improve the new PC, so fuss at your leisure B)

I know I will.

Very nice. I can get behind that. Thanks Mike!

It would also be nice to see both the Warden and Hawke to have roles of import in DA3 or whenever. I just don't see either of them being a purely background character for the rest of the series after the end of their respective games. The DA2 ending was all kinds of tease, you know.

Thankyou, i completely agree. A new protagonist in each DA game is definitely what i was hoping for. This doesn't need to be Mass Effect where its centralised around one character throughout the whole series.

As much as I love both my warden and Hawke, I'm glad to hear it will likely be a new protagonist. Not that I ever thought that wasn't going to be the case really. Creating new characters and getting attached to them is my favorite part about RPGs, so I'm all up for making a new character in DA3.

I do want more DLC with Hawke though. :D

I agree with all of this.

I want someone new in every game...I also wish to play as an elf again

Indeed that is what makes dragon age a new hero in eveyone of them.

Well I don't think I need to quote Mike's post here because everyone seems to be talking about it, but I say...sweet! I'm very fond of my Warden and my Hawke but I like new things and I like the idea of jumping from character to character and place to place like some sort of evil hero-possessing demon [insert evil laugh]. Seriously though I like that premise and I think there's great potential with that kind of setup to produce some great stories.

I'm glad to hear this too, I do hope for an expansion or more DLC of legacys quality but I'm much happier with leaving Hawke as she is at the end of DA2 (somewhere with LI) than I was leaving the warden at the end of DAO (vague epilogues).
I thought the Zevran epilogue undermined his relationship with the Warden and the import bugs in DA2 completely destroyed it! I hope that the changes being made will prevent this kind of thing happening again.

Very Interesting News.
i guess it kinda makes me sad that i will (Most likely, yes unlike some people i can see the "very likely" in there:P) not play with my warden in a new adventure again(it has actually been on my mind for a few weeks now).....
although the high possibility of never playing with Hawke again just brings a smile to my face from Ear to Ear.

although this will not end the fuss (at least not outside of this forum), unless it's published in gaming magazines.

i will not, however, be fully certain of what will happen in the future until it's completely confirmed that it will in fact be a new protagonist, things in the future change(something they're even forced to change) for the better or for the worse.

My opinion is.... ok, whatever needs to happen, if i get a phenomenal game, i won't mind at all(although now that i think about it, what makes me sad is that i won't be able to go on and finish my Warden/Leliana's romance as i wanted to....:crying:)

That seems rational and sensible and I think a lot of us expect that - loth as we are to let go of the warden characters we have.

Wahey, this news pleases me greatly.

I do appreciate the lack of characters randomly bumbling onto another story and the possibilities each change gives. Bring on the fun times.

I don't mind not having the Warden (but i want to see the Warden again), but i definitely want a Silent Protagonist. If DA3 has a voiced PC, I will be extremely dissapointed.

Thanks, Mike... I like this. This makes Thedas itself, its lore and all its peoples the protagonist rather than just one character, class or race... A good approach I think.

To the news of a new protagonist, I will give a very measured and sensible: eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I'm already leaning toward my first DA3 character being a sarcastic blonde Mage. (My first Warden was a diplomatic redhaired Rogue, and my first Hawke an agressive brunette Warrior. I'm working on a set.)

I'd really like to know what happened to my Wardens (well, the not-dead ones) and Hawkes after they disappeared, but that doesn't necessitate playing as them again.
