I have no idea where this should do as there isnt an everything Bioware forum so here it shall be.

Today Bioware became one of EA's labels and I think we should havea  thread  celebrating the fact that they've gotten so big.

Have some cake and a few beers and celebrate preferably with lots of free DLC codes for everyone who posts int he thread to congratulate you :P

Elbaoration.

Can't say I really understand the business but it certainly sounds important, so... gz?

Fewer claims of Bioware being sabotaged by EA now? Or more?

According to that article, John Riccitiello had this to say: "We’re focusing on building our intellectual properties/franchises into year-round business.  We are already seeing big returns on our investment in change. That’s
why this is precisely the right time to update our organization."

Er.  Right.  Well that makes it a whole lot clearer.

Sigh.  Why can't management types speak in plain English?  I suppose at least he didn't use the word "leverage", so we can be grateful for small mercies.

More stuff to sell between game launches.

"We are already seeing big returns on our investment in change."
It's going well.

"That’s why this is precisely the right time to update our organization."
Get it done while things are good?

I had a stab at it. Porbably over-simplified, if not just outright wrong, but I gave it a go.

I'm guessing its more along the lines of EA trying to prop up BioWare as their version of Activision's Blizzard- especially with TOR right around the corner.

And here is the blog from Riccitiello: http://www.ea.com/ne...ing-and-growing

I'm not too keen on how they're trying to prop up the Download Manager...I mean "Origin" up as EA's own platform. For all the talk of wanting to offer consumers choice, its pretty evident Origin will be the only place you'll be able to get EA games pretty soon.

So... a name change and governance over an additional studio. I am surprised Gamesutra thinks marketing qualifies as news. :pinched: BioWare has been an arm of EA long before they slapped "A Division of EA" under their logo. At most this means the absence of an EA logo on their games and attract screens. :P

That would be a remarkably stupid move that no amount of exec-speak could cover up.

Intellectual Property = Their games and everything they contain.

Franchises = Mass Effect / Dragon Age / etc. etc.

The "year-round business" part is interesting and worthy of speculation.

"year-round business" =DLC.

My gripe is why people like him don't just say "games".  Even if it's arguably more correct to say "intellectual property", it just grates somehow: I think it's a combination of not actually saying what they mean as well as being just a bit too proprietary about it.

Maybe my patience with obfuscated and content-free management-speak has worn away completely, but I think I was always irritated by this sort of thing.

So... is this going to be good for the BioWare as a game company, or is it just changing around who grabs who's ass?

If year round business leads to me getting a Legacy or LotSB DLC every month, sign me the hell up.

A distinct possibility.

Legally it’s intellectual property, but I suspect he was speaking to his audience; Gamasutra seems more geared toward those in the business.

It may just be recognition fluff but the mention of a renewed focus on company talent sounded good for EA employees and possibly of interest to those looking for employment with EA.
First one of these I've read though, so I'm not sure if this is said in every other release like this.

There's a little more here:
---------------------------------------
http://www.kotaku.co...reorganisation/

"EA’s publishing labels have now been reorganised into to four: EA Games, EA Sports, EA Play and BioWare."

"EA BioWare is a label split off from EA Games and will be run by Ray Muzyka, the BioWare co-founder."
---------------------------------------

Did someone say there was going to be cake?

Does this mean BioWare can now hire more people and make more games?
If so, I approve.:bandit:

I'm a little confused as to what this change actually means to the day-to-day workings of Bioware but it sounds like a good thing so...congrats Bioware!

I hope this'll grant Bioware greater autonomy in developing their games....and we don't get another rushed game like DA2.

Bioware getting its own separate publishing label probably means nothing (maybe EA will extert the same amount of control etc.) but they're certainly no worse off from before.
