Options - quit game. There you go. :)

No. No. No. You didn't get the point. I want to witness the galaxy burn down around me while doing nothing to stop it.

I think as a whole, gamers are used to the ending where they save the day. After all, they build their characters up to be the best they can be. If the character is then unable to win then it's epic fail and game over, reload, try again. But life doesn't have that option. Maybe being able to actually fail as part of the plot would make the game seem more real. Considering the possibility doesn't hurt.

But we must gather our party, with the implication that, sooner or later, we will venture forth.
Bioware even told us!

Everybody knows that the Reapers are just going to do nothing and simply wait for Shepard to progress through the story.
It isn't possible to let the bad guys succeed because the bad guys don't actually do anything.

The idea that you suggest is new and scary. I hate change, so I will blindly hate your suggestion.
How dare you ask Bioware to be original!Image IPB

Failing a game is not the same as sitting on your tush and letting it fail. I for one would NOT like to Fail! I hate dying in games and having to pay it over and over and over to get past the bad part. I don't want it too easy, either, but for the end game to be a total Fail?
I would not buy that kind of game, and I don't think that many would, certainly in the ME Universe.

I was an Unreal fan, and when Unreal 2 ended with the ship blowing up and Aida and crew dying, there were many very unhappy gamers at the time.

Please, BioWare, in ME3 give me the option to NOT save the galaxy. Because I'm not feeling like it. Yeah.

I wouldn't mind seeing a truly renegade ending, in which Shepard joins the Reapers in exchange for some real, true power, say, becoming a single reaper, or joining the head of the reapers (if any of that is relevant)... But to give up entirely?  No Shepard is that much of a wuss.

I don't think anyone wants a bad ending forced on themselves, just the option to make it happen on purpose.

I support this idea, Ive thought in recent time it would be nice if Shepard allowed themselves to be taken over my the Reaper. But better yet allowing the player to take a path where the Reapers are in control and always have been in control of Shepard without Shepard even realizing it like what happen with Saren. We players want an ending where the Reapers succeed, but better than that ending allowing us to play it out like with the Darkspawn Chronicles did in DA:O. They could give us the sucking ending when the game is released but would be nice if they gave us a DLC that was like the Darkspawn Chronicles.

Interesting idea.  I've often thought that Shepard should get a major case of burnout, grab his LI, and run like hell while the galaxy burned.

It would probably be similar to Ripley (Sigourney Weaver)'s character's reaction upon waking up in Aliens 4 and finding that yes, the aliens are still a threat to humans 200 years later, and yes, the humans STILL aren't taking it seriously. At one point, she says, "Who do I have to **** to get off this ship?"

Please note similarities to Shepard in this trailer:

But to be candid, you can see the bad ending of ME2 if the player doesn't try to get the loyalty of any of his crew and makes poor choices in the final mission.  It's not as satisfying as surviving to watch the universe burn, but it's still good:

What do you see when the timer goes down? or you just get a critical mission failure?

Apathy is death.

A curious coincidence. Kreia is my favorite character in the KoTOR saga. She's like "The Sith and the Jedi both suck. Let's destroy the Force itself!" To me that is exceedingly cool. A neutral, uncommitted option. Kind of like the idea of this thread.

I have a habit of imagining Kreia type fanfiction characters. Initially I thought Snape was that in Harry Potter: "Dumbly and Voldy both suck. Let's destroy Magic itself!" I hoped Hawke can be that in DA2. "Mages and Templars both suck. Let's burn all of Thedas to the ground!"

But so far there is only Kreia. Who wrote her? I bet it's Drew.

Look mate, the world is ending... In less than 100 years there will be more than 10 billion inhabitants on this planet, the muslims are taking over Europe, the Euro is going down together with some of the biggest european countries, Germany will come back to it's own money and make a new Union with the German countries, making the map resemble the WW2 one, China is seriously threatening USA's 1st power in the world position, and the USA won't like that, a new war is coming and possibly the world as we know it will end by the end of this century...

So, given all that, why don't you and Saphra jump off a skyscraper? Uh?
Just give up living, you can't beat what is about to come...

I said I wanted to watch the universe crumble around me.

I know the world is ending, as you have put it. That's why I'm very curious to see how exactly it will happen.

Precisely.

Don't tell me that, tell the OP and that Saphra dude... They're all "OMG TEH APOCALYPSE MUST COME IN ME3!!"

I don't know what Saphra's stance is exactly, but you seem to have taken me for granted.

I'm not like "OMG THE WORLD IS ENDING WHAT DO WE DO?!"

I'm more like "SHEESH I HOPE THE WORLD IS ENDING, COZ THAT'D BE A LOT OF FUN!!!"

Ah, just let it go, some people can't manage being told there might be other options or ways to enjoy a story.

I, for one, approve of this, this could be an interesting way to explore a character's psyche, without incurring a lot of cliches.

That sounds...really, really boring.

This.

I'm still trying to figure out how, in a game with lots of action oriented elements, that "sit on your ass" could be implemented in a way that's entertaining.

Hint: it couldn't.

This idea fails at existence and should be burned at the stake.

It's not exactly sitting on your ass from the beginning of the game. You advance through the game, make some missions, take some decissions, some of them were good, some were bad, and then things start to fall apart, don't you think that it would be at least understandable that after all those efforts Shepard were to say: '**** it, I give up, all I've done has amounted to no good, so screw this ****'

I don't know, maybe an 'early alternate ending' like this would be interesting, just like arrival countdown.

Kinda like in Jade Empire where you can allow Master Li to rule? I could see that having the chance to happen but I'm not sure if Bioware will put it in.

That might be realistic, but it's not entertaining to me.  In that case, I'm just loading a previous save anyway.  That's the privilege you get for plunking down your cash to purchase the game.

Well, nobody said it was mandatory, we're just theorizing about it being possible. Forcing it onto anyone would be contradictory.

There should be a failure ending like the Collector SM. That's all.

No -you don't make this choice and you die or something like that- If you don't care about the game at some point, it's easy: don't play.

If you feel bored about the game or don't care about the stroy then why continue playing?

What you're suggesting makes no sense. The main goal of the game is be the hero that saves the day. If it was about sitting on a couch while seeing people get killed I wouldn't play it because it wouldn't be entertaining.

DS, why do you support the idea of having Shep give up in ME3? I'm not talking about losing to the Reapers, but Shep just throwing up her hands and quitting makes the whole game seem rather pointless in the first place.

But that ending in JE isn't one of just giving up. It's a philosophy, a choice of staying in your station in life (Open Palm)  and accepting Master Li as the Emporer or choosing to step outside of that (Closed Fist) and change things to how you see.

I loved the Dark Side ending of KoTOR, where the game ends with Revan assuming control of the massive Sith Fleet.

I'd honestly be surprised if there wasn't a similar ending in ME3, either with Sheo joining the Reapers or being defeated by them.
