A normal day in Kirkwall then; rampant insanity amongst blood mages and Templar, slavers on a child napping spree, paedophiles, enchanted evil relics, rapists, whoring, drunks, muggers, mother wants to marry me off and damn Isabela is trying to get in my pants!

Sometimes I feel like the only sane person...
I need a holiday.

Signed Garrett Hawke.

I agree the Templar order in Kirkwall is abusive but I firmly believe that siding with them and annulling the circle was the right thing to do. Every mage in Kirkwall was either already a blood mage or too weak willed to resist the temptation to resort to blood magic. I would have razed the whole gallows to the ground were I given the option.

Beautiful.  So when party A torments party B into psychosis, we kill B and let A get away with it.
Oh, and "every" is a massive lie.

Every mage Hawke meets (minus companions and 2 or 3 npc mages) is a bat**** crazy bloodmage. My Hawke is a devout little Andrastian and supports the Chantry in general. He does not approve of Meredith and her Templar lackeys however.

So...two sane Hawkes in Kirkwall then. Us.

John (because if I don't sign she'll kill me in the morning...avatar sharing pain in the buttdom)

Whats up the Templars here  they seem off? -  *walks into Gallows with statues of  human torment  all round*

hmmm over worked and underpaid maybe.Image IPB

In all seriousness, that's rather telling, isn't it? "Hmm, where should we put the mages? I know--we'll use the old slave prison, with statues of despairing slaves all over the place! No chance that the Veil might me especially thin there, even by Kirkwall standards, and it certainly won't sent a message to the mages that they might as well be slaves."

I think it's a fascinating coincidence that this year is the 40th anniversary of the Stanford Prison Experiment, which is an awfully good model for the Gallows.

I've got the book on that 'How good men turn bad'...creepy.

That experiment polarized the scientific community, though as a scientist myself I'm not suppose to say this, but its not something that needs to be tested. It's undeniable fact, that a position like a Templar would only encourage the more sociopathic tendencies in a person. Even if it wasn't a dominant part of a persons personality, you put them in a no consequence situation in a position of absolute power over other human beings and you are assured of seeing the worst of humanity.

absolute power corrupts absolutely some of the truest words I have ever heard in my life.

The Milgram Experiment is just as bad. They proved that people will literally torture someone begging for mercy just because an authority figure told them to. I think it was like 60% didn't voice the slightest objection until they had given the subject enough electricity to possibly kill them. Or was it 60% who actually continued shocking even after the guy getting shocked had stopped responding, indicating they were either unconscious or dead... I forget.

Anyway, yeah, people suck.

Everybody should click on Alain and read what he says about Ser Alrek coming into his room and being threatened with tranquility if he says something.

Oh once was enough to get the point across to me -  I'm not one to flinch or cringe at things and I  flinched at that.

I never got him to say it because Alric is dead.

I got that even though  Alric is dead. Alain is either telling lies, mad, or i don't want to even know how a dead body keeps ending up in Alains room. JkImage IPB

Sir Alric doesn't die until you do Anders quest in act 2. You get the comment from Alain in act 1.
