Bugged 'Magic Damage' Resistance. Can't find cause

There are two arcane spells (that I know of) that protect from damage flagged as 'Magic Damage' on the character sheet. Those are Protection from Magic Energy (PFME) and Protection from Energy (PFE), level 6 and 8 respectably. There is also an item, Belt of Intertial Barrier, which gives 50% Magic Damage resistance. The tooltip for PFME clearly says that it gives protection from spells such as MM or ADHW.

The problem is, plainly, it doesn't work. Meaning any lich will one shot my character (sorcerer) with a ADHW for 120+ of damage on insane difficulty. I can cast a magic missile on myself and take damage. Of course, there are other ways to avoid it, but that's not the thing. The character sheet says 'Magic Damage - 125' under resistances. This means his ADHW should heal me - with fire shield (red) + PFME, my fire resistance is 125 and if I stand in my Incinedary Cloud, I (correctly) get healed.

This is the case with every character I create; first I thought maybe the belt is bugged - it's not, any combination of the belt and the two spells grants absolutely zero resistance to the damage. Then I thought maybe going over 100% is the problem - but I tried with just PFME and then with just PFE, so with 100 and 75% respectably - with the same result.

So clearly, this is bugged in my install because I haven't seen anyone else experience this sort of trouble in the unmodded game. Now I don't use millions of mods - just
Tweaks, Ascension, Tactics, SCS2, Rogue Rebalancing, ToBex and Spells50 - all widely known and acclaimed.

The first things to check would be Spells50 and the 'add spell penalties to spells cast by high level casters (BETA)' component from (I think) tactics. Still, before I go and reinstall the whole game, maybe there's a better way? I found some information in this thread: http://social.biowar...ndex/3120942/59 - apparently reinstalling helped but surely it would be possible to identify the problem and remove only the faulty component?

SCS (or rather, the included TobEx bit) is the cause. You can disable it by renaming ToBEx.dll to something else. (Of course you'll lose all the other bits of TobEx too, such as a working Dispel/Remove Magic, but them's the breaks).

You can also install a newer TobEx -- you'll need a test release. Beta 0020 does not include the fix.

Thanks, I'm installing it now.

edit: problem solved, thanks a lot!
