If this is true I hope somehow a different studio did it and it won't subtract from the singleplayer.
Offtopic however why are game developers so obcessed with adding multiplayer in? Assassins creed, dead space, Metro 2033, bioshock and maybe mass effect have all had or going to have multiplayer tacted on at the expense of singleplayer.
Well here's the question:
Was Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Dead Space, Metro 2033 franchises ruined by multiplayer? Did the singleplayer suck as a result?
There was no multiplayer in Metro 2033.
I meant Metro Last Light my bad. Admittedly multiplayer doesn't ruin franchises (AC:Brotherhood was a bad example) it does cut into disc space and therefore the singleplayer. Bioshock 2 had alot of cut content and was alot shorter than Bioshock and Dead Space 2 was shorter than Dead Space. While ME3 and Last Light aren't out yet the previous game/s have great single player stories. I would prefer for great singlelplayer games to remain that..great.

No one knows as Bioware says no, EA apparently said yes and some websites also claim there will multiplayer. I hope it's not true.

It's not. Not from a reliable, independently-confirmable source anyway.

Do any of those games have single players as focused and elaborate as Mass Effect?
Yes some of them do. Bioshock was outstanding and an equal to Mass Effect in terms of story in my opinion.

My working hypothesis is that they have too much fun watching people lose their minds and just let it run on until they start getting bored with it....kinda like the Joker.

Probably becuase being undeclared and hush hush on the subject is the safe way to go concerning sales. Bioware is a company after all.
For the record though some of these "optional bonus features" that keep popping up, not just with ME3, but with gaming in general..eh don't really appeal to me. If anything they are turn off.

Not even close is a bit harsh.. to me Bioshock has a great story equal to Mass Effect and the others are great too just not as great as Mass Effect and Bioshock.

None of those games have 25+ hours of content. Or branching dialogue paths. Or Mass Effect's replayability. None of them were made to close off two games' worth of story threads and character arcs on top of concluding a 60+ hour trilogy.
You derped. Hard.

So yeah, I checked around for this "magazine" and I've only ever seen that site talk about it. In fact, I found another magazine called Xbox World, which looks entirely different than that. In fact, it released its September issue at the end of last month (on the 28th). A little soon to be releasing the next issue don't you think? Not even two weeks for a turn-around? Yeah, right.

it does not
but as a franchise ME2 is elevated above Bioshock as the story is much deeper and branched..same for character developement over 2 games and 60+ hours and so on and so forth
