S/S confirmation was pretty rich, but Ashley, Jersey Vega and Aryan FemShep were tame.

I think we'll see angsting greater than some people's over DA2. Amazing!

The tears shall be delicious.  I'll pop some champagne while I read the comments and imagine them as the tears of fans.

Okay somebody help me out:

Is multiplayer confirmed or not?

No one knows as Bioware says no, EA apparently said yes and some websites also claim there will multiplayer. I hope it's not true.

I think the fact that nobody from Bioware has come out to deny this story probably means that it's true. :(

It gives me great pleasure to witness the repeated suffering of fragile fanboy reactionaries.

Oh Bioware PLEASE PLEASE NO MULTIPLAYER!!!!!! I am really freaking out here and am so upset and disappointed. Here I was trusting Casey when he said at SDCC that they were focusing on the single player aspect and now this pops up with an actual magazine cover revealing it. Why would they want to implement this feature, it makes absolutely no sense in the trilogy! Why Bioware? Why won't you listen to us fans. We never wanted this!! :(

Silverman seems like a "any publicity is good publicity" kind of guy. The longer they don't say anything, the more attention gamers will have on ME3.

It just ridiculous how far Bioware and EA is willing to go to make ME3 more profitable First kinect and now this? Thus whole idea of trying to reach the casual player will compromise the beauty and depth of this game since multiplayer costs development money and time, both of which could go to the single player. What a huge disappointment. I sure hope that this multiplayer thing is no true. Would really put my mind at ease.

Pathetic. Get Multilayer out of Mass effect 3.

How you can ignore an opinion that a clear majority of gamers clearly share is beyond me.

Does this mean all the people who swore that they were going to cancel their pre-order if MP was confirmed are also going to leave the Mass Effect forums? You know, because they no longer have an interest in the series, and therefore nothing constructive to contribute to the conversation.
...yeah, I thought not. <_<

I'm not going to jump to conclusions, but the trendline from Bioware in the last couple of years has been pretty consistent.

My gut says that it turns out to be true. If so, I'll be cancelling my preordering and picking the game up used in protest. It'll be the first Bioware game that I haven't bought via preorder since preordering became an option.

Cancelling preorder and not getting the game at all are not exactly the same thing.

I'll settle for getting the game used to make sure that Bioware doesn't profit from the decision if it turns out to be true.

He didn't lie. BioWare Edmonton is focusing solely on SP, BioWare Montreal's most likely doing all MP work.

You do realize that even if, and I'm stressing the word if, the majority of BSN members active on the ME forums are actually against MP in ME3, that in no way means that the majority of gamers are against it, right?

Is this descision influenced by EA? I'd say that's nearly without a doubt. However, you aught to be cognizant of the fact that multiplayer support is what sells a lot of people on whether or not they buy a specific game. I'd wager that for every one of the melodramatic doomsayers who don't buy the game, there's a few hundred "regular" gamers who pick the game up because of the inclusion of MP.

So go ahead and boycott the game if that is your desire, but EA and Bioware won't really miss you ( I'm talking to all the "purists" out there ) when they're looking at their bank statements for March 2012.

Considering that this was posted on EA's site in May 2010, why are people surprised that it's going to be in this game?

Just to point out the obvious here, but you'll be denying yourself content that comes free with a new copy. Unless you want to pay for an online pass, of course. That will eventually be worth it...six months down the line. If the game doesn't remain popular for longer than it's predecessors due to the multiplayer component...

Just sayin'

Multiplayer of any kind is worthless to me. I never play it for any of the games that I buy. By picking up the game used, all I'd be doing is avoiding the multiplayer premium in the price tag.

People who DO like multplayer have a difficult time understanding this, but I literally have ZERO interest playing my video games with other people. For me, gaming is a NON social activity similar to reading a book. When I want to be social, I do things like go play a pickup basketball game or have a poker night with my buddies.

The reason I like RPGs is the storyline and the characters, things that I can't immerse myself into with people yammering through a headset at me.

I'm not sure you're correct on that statement. While it is likely true that the majority of the INDUSTRY is heavily multiplayer focused and likes having it in their games, I'm not so certain the majority of the RPG GENRE would agree.

Can't really think of a whole bunch of multiplayer RPGs out there. Now, granted, the Mass Effect series is as much shooter as it is RPG, but after Bioware made a big deal about beefing up the RPG and storyline experience from ME2 into ME3, I'm not so certain that the majority of their own particular fanbase is going to like this decision.
