What, you mean Discord? He's supposed to return in Season 3.

Is he? I dunno. All the antagonists I've seen so far that aren't each other last about 1-2 episodes.

So I've determined that the recurring characters of the Night's Watch are considerably more like the Mane Six in their personalities and dynamics than I previously suspected.

Pyp's recurring thing is making jokes, so he's obviously Pinkie. Grenn is the big strong guy, so he's Applejack. Rainbow sort of defaults to Jon if Twilight doesn't fill that role. Rarity is Dolorous Edd. Just because you know she'd react -exactly- like him if forced into similar situations. 

And Fluttershy is obviously Ghost, since she's so quiet. 

I'm only half kidding. 

EDIT: Alternatively I guess you could say Fluttershy is Edd and Rarity is like Satin, but I'm all of five chapters into A Feast For Crows (incidentally, I can appreciate the world-building since I love that myself but good god this book is slow to start - by comparison Storm of Swords was busy from cover to cover) and I don't really have a handle on what he's like beyond "I'm a pretty boy man**** from Oldtown".

Actually now that I think about it that's not a bad comparison.

In regards to the above:

Well, they're archetypes.

An archetype ( /ˈɑrkɪtaɪp/) is a universally understood symbol, term,[1] or pattern of behavior, a prototype upon which others are copied, patterned, or emulated. Archetypes are often used in myths and storytelling across different cultures.

You can tell from the beginning of MLP that they were going for a collaboration of different personalities to work cohesively throughout equestria in some manner. Although the plot line is often very light(outside of two-parters a la Return of Harmony/Canterlot Wedding), that's what they did.

A Feast for Crows is THAT slow all the way to the end, sorry to disappoint. I'm re-reading it now actually.
