What? Don't be ridiculous, SCP 087 never ends. Sombra's staircases were long, but they ended eventually. However, I got the impression that SCP-409 hit the Crystal Empire like a ton of bricks.TheBlackBaron wrote...

Nah, 409 looks like quartz instead of doom metal.
Also, Jesus christ, did they intend for this episode to send the Rarijack shippers into overdrive?

A little bit of Twilight and Rarity (I don't want to try to combine these two, I'd do it badly.)

Rarilight is the generally accepted protmanteau, I think.
It's the best of a bad situation.

Well, at the end of S2, Chrysalis pretty much just got the Team Rocket treatment, so the patter isn't quite so profound.Andarthiel_Demigod wrote...

The main villain and plot exposition was kinda meh. Especially the villain, whose design was generic, and which had no other traits than being 'evil'.
- A whole city filled with a pony sub-species appears out of thin air - introduced within a few sentences
- A very cheap reason for Luna/Celestia not to join the cause
- Anonymous cloud of black smoke without any personality attacks the city filled with amnesiac figures, and suddenly the only way to prevent it is to have a party.
- Twilight being nervous about failing the 'test' is a leap of faith, who'd ever have second thoughts about letting Spike save the day?
You failed me, Megan. And I trusted you. At least my M.A. Larson worship isn't destroyed yet.
My impression is that the villain was there just for the sake of having a villain in the first two episodes. The outta-nowhere-ghost-town would be enough for an interesting plot. The what's-it's-name cloud of smoke was so bland, so unmemorable, so unexplained, so BAD BAD BAD. Not evil. BAD. It won't spawn any decent fan-made content. Just about every other not-so-decent character in the show was better.
Cool animation though, I laughed a few times, and the first song was a lot better within the context. I even smiled during the square-root line, which I found not so funny when I listened to the song alone.

Damnit.
EDIT: Oh wait I remember now.
Guys. The book at the end. It had a SWIRL of STARS on its cover.
Does this remind you anything?

In fact, did they ever actually explain where the Crystal Kingdom had come from in the first place? Did it just sort of mysteriously reappear in the north or has it always been there, since Celestia mentions that it controls whether harmony or fear and hatred reign over Equestria ... or something like that.

Unfortunately as it turns out I'm going to have junk my previously preferred fanon of the Crystal Kingdom and the Frozen North being the remains of the land the ponies originally came from, what with this hole Sombre business.

At the start of part 1 of the episode the guard pony with a message for Celesta tells her that "it has returned".Along with the lecture given by Celesta to Twilight about the Crystal Kingdom and the curse placed on it by King Sombra which caused it to vanish.
This implies that it did reappear recently, however the episode does not really give much of an explanation for where the Crystal Kingdom had been when it was cursed other then that it disappeared.

What program do ya use for vectors?
Sis always used Inkscape, but as a total noob at this I was completely overwhelmed by the interface. It turned out to have some annoying coloring bugs too, so after a little search I found Serif DrawPlus. The Starter Edition is free, and it's easier to use than Inkscape. It does have less features, but my basic checklist was:
1) Draw and manipulate vectors
2) Simple interface, no-headaches-tools
3) Free
So there you have it. I think sis also has Draw Plus and prefers it to Inkscape when she doesn't want to use something that's missing.

So, Let's talk about Ponies.
I saw the episode. It's very difficult to compete with its previous 2-Parter episode of the Canterlot Wedding, but it's still a great 'Mini-Movie' regardless. While it may not be objectively mindblowing, the setting, as reiterated before, is a breath of fresh air from "just more equestria".
Some of the comedic bits during the meeting with Overly-Tired cadence felt ill-timed. As much as I enjoy humor, the whens/wheres/hows are critical in execution. Then there's the ones they nailed like the old "I just realized how to save the empire from certain destruction. Ooh, Funnel Cake." Pinkie Pie in a full jester outfit is pretty adorable.
So yeah, it was pretty great. It's still leap years more interesting than S1's first couple episodes, and I hope to see them bringing more of the good stuff.
I agree with this, pretty much.
A Canterlot Wedding still goes undefeated. 11 episodes left to see if that changes.
I do have to admit that as bad as I think BBBFF is, it's not enough to hold back that episode from being their best-ever. I'll give it the edge again.
I think that the only way it could be better (aside from having at least one Shining Armor exposition episode in the middle of the season) would be Chrysalis... Return of Harmony, as I said before, has flawless storytelling throughout it, but what makes the episode in the end is Discord. He's the exception to the "Villain Talk rule": whereas everytime NMM and Chrysalis (and Sombra) opened her mouths they lost badassery points, he... just... well... YOU KNOW. IT'S Q CELESTIADAMMIT.

The issue with that is, despite the proper exposition, is that he's barely seen besides cackling outside a shield. The motive isn't particularly intriguing or is worth any sort of empathy. A good start, but not the best execution.Well, the villain was kind of lame. And ... really did nothing.
This COULD just turn out to be some initial exposition if we are ever to see him again thanks to Horcrux-Horn-Of-Evil

Okay, I just watched the Season 3 opening. *cue endless whining*.
I can be mindless overly critical, too. With every MLP episode ever (aside from Return of Harmony). Dissing A Canterlot Wedding would be a piece of cake.
So I've got to ask: why?
