Y'know, I just can't get into it. The lines don't feel as epic. Applejack doing Aragorn's lines in a bad impression of an Ozarks accent is just ... meh. 

Besides, the season premiere totally had a LotR moment all on its own right up, when Twilight was trying to find the heart.

Then it got subverted when Spike got to be a hero (I'm proud of the little guy) but yeah.

I'm kind of wondering if DHX is using the excuse that they only got picked up for 13 episodes this season as an excuse to pack as much fanservice as possible in.

I mean, we just got what was fundamentally a "Twilight's advanced magical studies" episode with a big heap of foreshadowing and the return of the BBBFF and his waifu on top of it, and coming up we've got WONDERBOLT EPISODE, and SCOOTALOO EPISODE, TRIXIE EPISODE, and APPLEJACK'S FAMILY (presumably answer questions about her parents) EPISODE, and even SPIKE EPISODE PART THREE.

I mean, at this point I don't think I'd be surprised if that silly summer rumor about Rainbow Dash getting a boyfriend actually turns out to be true.
