Renegades are willing to make the hard decisions that nobody else can. That's what Twi did. Discord had it coming.
I think everything you guys say about my beloved Twi anymore is just to troll me:crying:

Idk that is pretty stereotypical of many scenes like that but if you go watch the original scenes again it's just a background with no movement.
Yeah, yeah, that one was a stretch, but then again, most of the "tense"/reaction face backgrounds are almost solid reds/purples, sometimes with stripes.
that i think tends to be true and the fact that hypnotism was demonstrated with the swirly eyes might lend more support to that idea

Secondly, there's King Sombra. I liked his characterization, but he was way too underdeveloped. He just roared a whole lot, but didn't actually get that many lines, maybe one or two at best. Very annoying, as this makes him go lower on the list of MLP villains we have seen thus far.
Last but not least there's the fact that the plot of these two first episode was almost a copy of the plot with Queen Chrysalis. In both episodes a kingdom is threatened, in both episodes love & friendship defeats evil and both Shining Armour and Princess Cadence play an important role.
Overall, very good episodes, but definitely not as great as the episodes with Discord, whose characterization for me personally was top-notch and very interesting.

Ok, so I finally got around to watch the first two episodes of the third season. I must say they were very well executed, but there were three major things that bothered me. First of all, Celestia's passivity as a character is starting to become jarring and annoying. For one of the most powerful Alicorns alive, she certainly can get her butt out there and actually HELP Twilight for once
I find this funny because this is the only episode where they bothered to give an explanation (a test Twilight must pass), instead of "erm... uh..... just go" like in Return of Harmony and The Mare In The Moon.

I'd love to see a Twilight/Celestia episode where the both solve a problem together. Right now she is starting to become a charicature of an anticipating school teacher putting her pupil under pressure to achieve. No wonder Twilight has some kind of inferiority complex at times and a lot of fear to fail. There must be a lot of stress on her shoulders.
Ooooooooh, Ivandra.
I could list episodes.
The very.first.episode.of.the.series.
The phoenix. That episode in the first season where Twi is absolutely terrified, can't remember what it was. The many times when Equestria was threatened and she sat back and did nothing.
I dislike her quite a bit for her...eyebrow-raising effect on Twilight.

Interesting take, but personally I like her hands off approach to dealing with crises. Sure, she and her sister have enough power to solve just about any problem that the world throws at them, but if they threw all their power behind their efforts to protect the realm, wouldn't that make the very lives of their subjects redundant to an extent? If they never gave the smaller horses any responsibilities, Equestria's culture would never mature. By allowing the small ponies to solve their own problems once in a while, it helps them to improve themselves, that's my opinion on the matter.Ivandra Ceruden wrote...

That bold, underscored, and red-ded line is the problem.

Don't be a drama cow, The Princesses are still there as a safety net, they could still solve these problems themselves and bail Equestria out if Twilight & Co failed. Remember the ending of Lesson Zero? That's what would have happened at the end of any other episode if the mane 6 failed in their efforts to save Equestria.
I don't, refresh me.
