From what I saw via the episode(Pinkie/Mailbox scene), I have to wonder... would they dare to go in that direction with pinkie pie and dash?

Overall, the episode is a bit like how BlackBaron described the reading rainbow one - a simple premise, but they add in enough fun bits to keep it entertaining. It also has a few more interesting themes than the former: The negative effects of Peer Pressure & Competition, Identity Issues, etc.

It's a neat episode.

Nah, no way. I think it's just to meant to illustrate Pinkie's excitability and lack of personal space comprehension. Dash didn't look too enthused about it. 

Only one kind of shipping in the show, and that's Shining Armor/Cadence.

You can't tell in this, but her cutie mark is a phoenix. Also, judging by the stripes on her shoulder boards, Spitfire is a frigging Rear Admiral. Interesting, given that going by Soarin's uniform (the one he wears in ACW) he's a Lieutenant Commander.

Granted, that uniform looked completely different from this one, so who knows.
