Because the authours create a story with more character depth, greater worlds, and the fact that they are ponies.

I didn't watch the documentary, legally or not, but traveling around the world just to get past the budget they had with Kickstarter (which ended up getting much more than the minimum they asked), making a self-congratulatory documentary about the fandom instead of analising the show and using THAT as a justification for the fandom's existence... was REALLY DUMB of his part. And I like De Lancie. I was a Trekkie long before I was a brony
But getting over budget for no rational reason, then charging bronies money for a brony-funded pseudo-documentary and getting mad that the internetz are doing what they always do... it's ridiculous. Stupid. Most people who were willing to pay for the documentary had already paid the Kickstarter. Again. It. Makes. No. Sense.

I agree with you on the whole the Internet did what it always does thing. It was going to get pirated, no matter what. No point complaining about it and pointing fingers. Also they say that their primary audience are those who don't know much/are curious about the fandom, but lets be honest, in the world outside the Internet, bronies aren't a widespread thing that is common knowledge to the average person.
It might not just be piracy that's doing them in either, but also next to nonexistent advertising. I mean, the only place I've ever seen anything Bronydoc related is on EQD and Kickstarter, and save for the odd visitor of the latter, how will that pull in their target audience? Mind you I think they were expecting too much from sales at the beginning too. As of now it can be digitally bought and downloaded from a single site on the net while the DVD, Blu-ray and Netflix versions are still being sorted out, so it could also be that they expected too much too soon. Interesting to hear Tara and Faust's thoughts on all this though, because they had big parts in the doc.
Shame to hear about how Mando is acting, he's one of my favourite brony musicians. He also removed commenting on all of his older vids fairly recently, because he could no longer put up with haters and such, while other fan musicians seem to be coping just fine.. Nobody is perfect though and all this mess shows it.
But yeah, let me re-ask a question. Anybody been keeping up with the comic? It's really pretty good. Dare say better than a fair amount of FiM episodes so far. One more issue before this whole Chrysalis arc ends though, eager to see where the writers take things from there.

That's easy considering there are less restrictions by Hasbro, both in tone and in the presence of, you know, actual story arcs.

I try not to think too hard on things like this sometimes. I find ad campaigns for good things are making increasingly less sense
The only thing i've seen of the documentary was "lets go meet the bronies" which i don't think did a fair job of summing us up.
Anywho with regards to MandoPony i've never been a big fan of his music but it isn't bad. I was glad when he apparently managed to start a career off of it. But i find his posts and re-tweets about the piracy today rather ironic since yeah know.. He shames us for the piracy but would it not have been our purchasing of his music that fueled his career? it's rather ironic. (i don't think he's had a career in music until ponies, i could be wrong i'd appreciate it if someone could find out i've tried but i can't find anything linking other Andy and adnrew steins to Mando-Pony)
