Well I watched it...it was okay. On episode 22 of the first season, it seems an okay kids show, trying to finish it. There are a few aspects that I am less than fond of but overall pretty good and sweet, might get it for my niece and nephew.

I can respect that.
I watched every single episode that had aired before I made my critism, so may I suggest episodes 11,14 and 16 of season 1, and episodes 4, 25 and 26 of season 2.

The aspects I don't like?
Zecora- She is everything wrong with Tokenism. She is a blend of multiple African cultures from all over once more readying the belief that there is only Egypt and the rest of Africa is one giant country. The fact she is another species while other foreign ponies in places that don't have horses have accents. She only exists to be a magical herb using other creature. All she did was laugh when the ponies broke into her home, once more establishing that when people face racism they should be the ones keeping a stable head, she is cool but the fact that the episode based on othering others is so focused on a very African character who is made really weird and is only there to help the other ponies. The thing done with the Settler ponies was very similar and both examples left a bad taste in my mouth.
2) A lot of the show while sweet, also, no fault toward it, has a very uncomfortable fan base. I am not sure I should give it to them when there is so much sexualization of these characters on the net. These are little girl characters and that makes it a very unacceptable fanbase for the actual kids, especially since my niece is computer literate. And so many of the fans are so hateful that I worry for actual kids that enjoy the show.
3) The lessons are okay although a few I disagree with some but on the most part has a lack of plot that usually gets ME interested in a show. The Cartoon I compare all cartoons to is gargoyles with multiple plots and mature storylines, while inappropriate for kids it is what I seek in a cartoon for an adult. I like shows you have to watch the whole season to understand the finale and the ideas they have been looking for. Nothing bad about My Little Pony just less of a show that is my general interest.
My reasons, although it is a great show, it is not my cup of tea, my main debate is to get it for my niece and nephew though.

Huh, people usually don't have much of a problem with that episode or Over a Barrel, it's Feeling Pinkie Keen that people tend to have issues with. I guess I can understand where you're coming from though.
Sorry you had such a bad experience with the fanbase, sounds like you had an unfortunate run in with the "dark side" of the fandom in regards to inappropriate content. The sad fact of that matter is while I wish such content didn't exist either, like any fanbase such material was going to be made eventually if it didn't already, that's what Rule 34 is after all. "If it exists,not here is porn of it. No exceptions." As for the mean spirited nature of other fans, where exactly did you see such behaviour? Not saying that you're wrong, the brony fandom has plenty of mean spirited and immature types, to deny that fact is folly really. But for every negative fan there are so many more good people, whether they be simple forum goers like us, commenters on Equestria Daily (the majority are nice enough) or content creators, whether they also be artists, musicians, animators, coders and custom craft makers. On top of that though there's a stigma behind simply being a fan of the show, and we've had to put up with a lot of crap in our time. It's understandable, but not necessarily agreeable or easily forgivable that some would act so on edge or agressive all the time.
While its a shame it wasn't to your tastes, you can't win 'em all over and that's ok. Saying that though, maybe you'll end up enjoying season 2 better? I know I did. It's personally my favourite season but whatevs. I remember watching Gargoyles as a kid, I liked it, for what little I remember of it. Can't help you with the nephew/niece thing, since I obviously have no idea what they're into. You'll have a better idea in regards to that.
One last thing. Thanks for being so civil. There have been people in the past like you who haven't been so nice. It definitely says something about you at least. Maybe well see you in this thread again in the future. Who knows?
