In all seriousness, I stand by my point. While this was hardly an end of days situation in Equestria, it still seemed an odd reaction for a character that up to then, was portrayed as kindly and wise. Maybe I am being too picky, but I can't just watch a show without raking over its themes and characterization with a fine-toothed comb.

Xanatos Gambit on Celestia's part. I'm quite sure she knew what she was doing when she sent Twilight to Ponyville and specifically had her meet the rest of the main cast. I figure it was a backup plan in case she wasn't able to take care of Nightmare Moon herself (and if she way, hey, at least she got Twilight out of the house and being social).
I mean, if she can set into motion in episode 3 a plan to troll the entire kingdom in spectacular fashion at the gala in episode 26, that's hardly out of her range of planning.
