Topic, Spike has been irking me ever so slightly with each passing episode. I am worried my dislike for him will multiply ten times by the time I finish season 3.

For better or for worse, he's one of the few notable male characters in the show, and Season 3 was not kind to him(or perhaps the other way around is more accurate). A certain fan fiction I'll keep anonymous has a more interesting depiction of him than the original episodes themselves.

You've got it all backwards. Spike is better than any of the Mane 6.
