They have all sorts of fan ideas.

-That they are a seperate species created by Nightmare Moon before her banishment
-One where they were created by Celestia as punishment for working with NMM
-That they are a seperate species, evolved from pegasi.
-Then that simply they are wearing enchanted armour to make them look like that.

And I do like Prince's name for them, much better than bat ponies. Any reason you named them that?

I didn't come up with it. Saw it being thrown around a little, so I decided to keep it.

In Aura they'll be a race of ponies that evolved alongside normal ones, just with some slight evolutionary changes, such as-

• Being slightly taller than normal ponies
• All Thestrals have "Thestral Eyes" which help them see better in dark environments
• All Thestrals have feathered ears
• Thestral Unicorns have taller horns than their normal equivalents, also thestral horns have differing detail
• Thestral Pegasi have wings that mimic those of bats

I've already worked them out in my head quite a bit, and put stuff down to come back to later.

I love them.

I like to think of them as being random mutations among pegasi, sort of like Psykers among the general human populace. Poorly understand misfits, really, that Luna takes under her wing at first, and Celestia keeps around afterward the former's banishment out of compassion and to serve as her night guard (giving rise to their name, the Knightmares).

I'm not even going to acknowledge the incredible stupidity of tumblr at the moment surrounding a tumblr I follow, but that Lightning Dust from the D'aw was from the Ask Incompetent Lightning Dust tumblr, first one I've recommended.

I also recommend Princess Celestia Gets Mugged not a long read, I did it in 2 hours.

I took a look at the first 15 minutes of Equestria Girls. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's a legitimately entertaining Spin-Off thus far. It may not be my favorite setting for the MLP bunch, but they did a solid job. At the very least, it'll help feed the Pre-S4 Fix.

Kudos to the voice actors for being as good sports as they are between this, twitter/vlogs, and everything else.
