Hmn, yeah, and the Carbon said that he has been working on it for 5 or 6 months. Very possible he was inspired by it.

Thing is, I don't like this very much. It seems a little haphazardly thrown on there.
Now this one is one of the ones I can see myself using, has pony, but also a detailed background and format

I watched that video of Pinkie Pie beating the crap out of everypony (see what I did there?). Just....damn....I really don't know what to say. It's like MLP with a dash of Happy Tree Friends, with a side of DBZ.

I'll find myself less and less in here until discussion picks up. All we got are images and it just makes loading take longer than it should, so I'd rather wait till we're all chatting it up again.

One thing I can poke at.

~MLP: Is there character depth, or is it something else?~

So, one of the main elements people mention when getting people nonchalantly tossed into the herd is about characters. Looking onto the very first post of this thread, the user by the name of XX55XX mentions that "The characters were cool and relatable, even if they were all girl ponies." I do agree that the writing is much better than 2/3 of the cartoons being produced. While this applies relative to other cartoons, I don't agree that the characters are as deep or as realistic as some of the more lauded television/film/books. It seems more like the moral dilemmas and storytelling techniques themselves are what make MLP noticeably different and make the characters stand out and more relatable.

If I go out and watch the Regular Show, or Adventure Time or what have you, I'll get some decent stories, though most of the time they're playing more off of humor itself. I'd argue that the first season did this very often - you could see how the story is playing out early on, but there's enough humor injected to keep it lively and worth watching. Anyone who saw the Cranky Doodle Dandy episode knows that Pinkie Pie and him could never really be friends. Or that Applejack couldn't possibly get all those apples picked in Applejack Season. Just doesn't add up.

The mane 6 aren't particularly complicated archetypes. Pinkie pie wouldn't be difficult to interchange with Spongebob Squarepants, or Twilight Sparkle with... Elaine, or perhaps Tina Fey. There's also virtually no character development. While there are references to previous episodes(Fluttershy goes near-rage in the Crystal Empire, after the events of Putting your Hoof Down), but they're essentially the same characters from one episode to the other. You couldn't even possibly do this in say, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, or more Story-centric Franchises. Despite the lack of character development outside of said "Episode Bubbles", there's something special about the contained stories they do.

Taking a brief look at "The Return of Harmony". For nearly all of the episodes to that point, the mane 6 had been a support system for each other, despite their personality differences. Through discord's deception, twilight was put in a very demanding and laborious position, one she had to solve herself. It's through this that the emotional punch can helps the audience relate more to Twilight through her Dilemmas. She's still the same pony she was in the first episode, but it's "the feels" that remind me that I'm still a brony for an important reason.

Hopefully that can at least add something to the thread(or the more likely answer, people keep posting GIFs and I inevitably edit this out. MLPers gonna MLP)

Was Long; Still Read.

I have a similar thing stating that they don't necessarily have large amounts of character growth, but they end up being put in more varied situations that make it so you get a bigger picture of who that character is.

It's true that the characters aren't paticularly complex, I would say they are just complex enogh to keep the illusion (meaning, never feels like a poorly done character).

What is great bout the mane6 in my opinion is more the variety of traits that allow different people to relate to them and how often those traits are used. Often in fiction there are characters with a developed personality that is rarely shown, ussually because it would interrupt the funny or actiony aspects. But in MLP they let the characters interact and be themselves for a while between the more adventure type episodes (which are the ones I personally like the least btw).
