You know, something has always bothered me. When they say Luna is asleep during the day, they mean the whole day, now assuming that Equestria has a shifting day/night cycle, and that ponies including Luna and Celestia need 8 hours of sleep a day. Luna has 9 hours of night minimum, 15 hours maximum. Based on a Earth day/night cycle*, both Luna and Celestia work outside of the times their respective times of day.

*based on the resemblance of what Equestria looks like and Canterlot's relative location within that zone.
