I'm conflicted on that subject. If the CMC do ever actually get their C. Marks, I'd prefer it to be unintentional, or rather that they get them out of necessity instead of trying to force their way into becoming marked. It'd seem rather anticlimactic to me if said moment had happened the same way they'd been trying for countless episodes. As far as the possibility of flight, yeah, I'd admit to hoping she'd get it that time. I couldn't tell how the episode was going to play out.Today's episode was great. But i really wish something had happened.
Endgames aside, it was a fantastic episode - in particular due to the drama itself. Even being a Child-Centric episode(relatively speaking), the motives and machinations are a bit heftier than Daring Don't or Castle Mane-ia. There wasn't as much emotional investment in Castle Mane-ia for me. It was essentially a scooby doo episode, playing off of slapstick-y humor and those sorts of gags. Daring Do isn't narratively complicated, but the humor makes up for it.
With FttF, Miss Harshwhinny poorly influences rainbow dash to be something she isn't - Rigid and Professional(though this isn't maliciously done. With a last name like that, it's not surprising). It's not the main ingredient to the downfall of Scoot, but it creates an extra sense of pressure and tension between the CMC after the less-than-enthusiastic scrutinization. With the stage set, Scootaloo pulls an Applejack and overworks herself not out of persistance, but perhaps vanity and self-doubt? To add to this, Apple Bloom tosses her even farther into oblivion by outright abandoning her for the Equestrian Games - something I personally didn't expect.
In other words, everypony's manipulating everyotherpony. I blame Cerebus.
It's this particular style of storytelling that I think makes MLP ahead of everyone else in terms of Televised Cartoon Shows(at least in the Satirical Sub-Genre i.e. Animaniacs/Regular Show/Adventure Time/etc.)
I thought if scoots, had gotten her Cutie mark it would've bene pretty natural in this episode Dash even seems pretty pumped a tthe end like she's going "YES YES YES WHAT MAKES YOU YOU YES????!" and as she's about to jump for joy because scootaloo has achieved her mark scootaloo is all like "Maybe it will be flag carrying" and dash visibly droops. Like a facepalm to the max. scoots is my favorite CMC so i've been rooting for her for a bit.
As far as the story line goes it was well done and i'd have to agree i'd say this kind of story line is what's puting Ponies out there on the map right now, that and the fantastic animations. Aside from that also the music, It just has the best trifecttive going for it at the moment. However i will say it does pull actual stories in it's episodes more frequently than any other cartoon i've watched out there lately. Like Adventure time some times pulls something out of the hat with character development and depth but usually it's an adventure of the week thing with no one doing much of anything, same with most of the other cartoon network junk that's out now -.- so sad. poor good cartoons. Although Regular Show has grown on me, but it's no ponies. One show that i really liked and it was totally on the wrong station was dan vs. I honestly can't believe they cancelled it. It was soo good.
