Well, the series has fans from all over the political spectrum, if that's what you're asking, but some of My Little Pony's episodes theme contain deeply conservative themes that I wouldn't expect a non-fan to recognize. "The Crystal Empire" for example, was an allegory supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In that episode, it is revealed that 1000 years ago, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna attempted to overthrow King Sombra, the evil ruler of The Crystal Empire, but after they turned him to Shadow and banished him beneath the ice, he put a curse on The Empire, causing it to vanish along with all the crystal ponies. This represents President George Bush's failure to oust Saddam Hussein during the 1990 Gulf War. But then, when the Crystal Empire returned, Princess Celestia asked her protege Twilight Sparkle to finish her work, mirroring President George W. Bush's 2003 Gulf War. Princess Celestia told Twilight Sparkle that if The Crystal Empire is filled with hope and love, these things would be reflected across all of Equestria, reflecting the Bush Administration's attitude that toppling Saddam Hussein would cause a domino effect, spreading liberal democracy to all of the Middle East.
So naturally, Twilight Sparkle grabbed her Ponyville friends, standing in for the coalition of the willing, and headed north for the crystal empire. Upon arrival, Twilight Sparkle was escorted to a section of the Crystal Empire which was shielded from King Sombra by Princess Cadence's magic, which was clearly a reference to the Baghdad Green Zone. Twilight Sparkle and her friends later tried to recreate the Empire's Crystal Fair in order to raise morale in the local populace, and in order to do so they went to the library and researched Crystal Pony history. This is likely a reference to the US Military's attempt to win hearts and minds by embedding anthropologists. However, the Crystal Fair failed to bring happiness to the Crystal Empire because the Crystal Heart, representing liberal democracy was absent.
In the end, the Crystal Heart is recovered and King Sombra is killed. Celestia can't find any crystal ponies fit to rule their own kingdom, so she installs Cadence as the Crystal Princess instead, which represents... American Exceptionalism or something?
So there you have it, My Little Pony endorses strong military interventionalism.
I dissagree, but i see where you are going with it and it is certainly an interesting way to look at that development. But i don't think the situaiton has anymore bearing on present times than it does to previous colonial events.
Interesting to note though is that Sombra was also note a crystal pony if i recall he appeared to be much like other regular ponies. So i'm not sure of exactly how that fits in? Maybe if you were going with a modern association Neo colonialism might another possible subject? This is going to be really simplistic sounding and maybe a little stupid by comparison but:
Sombra is a non-crystal pony, who rules seemingly through oppression and power perhaps symbolic of colonialism in that places were taken over and typical ruled by martial might in some way in an unequal society that general benefited the upper class or the colonizer and collaborators.
He is dethroned and the kingdom itself disappears, maybe the disappearance is symbolic of the decent into chaos when a colonial oppressor is overthrown? I'm not so sure about that bit but the following i think i like better:
Twilight's crew is sent in not to colonize them through might or force but instead to slowly coerce them out of the dark bringing them to a more joyous and perhaps deluded state by instilling them with a culture they are lead to accept as their own, then a Foreign national ends up taking the thrown but in a less hands on way where she is more a representative of some in between of crystal pony and regular pony though still quite a symbolic projection of Equestrian power. What's more she represents a particular ideal that brings joy and also perhaps distraction. Just like post WW2 Coke-Cola. And much like coke-cola, pepsi and american media in many places of the world she is accepted with out really any questions.
Also forgive me if i drew a bad connection, but i don't study history i study words. Because they are far more important
As far as i'm concerned the episode was the stereotypical "Evil empire Dissolved-Reborn as Good" thing for pure plot purposes. but its fun to talk about
I swear one day smilies you will be gone and i will laugh laugh i say at your well overdue death. Curse you smilies and your evil smiley ways >:|
