The lighting on the characters almost surpasses the original show.

The animations were phenominal. Definately their strong point . They did admit that madoka magica and fate zero particularly Gilgamesh and the blue chick I can't remember the name of were inspirationaal to them in this one, I thought it was fairly obvious since Lukas powers are so similar but they did good

Also now that i'm home and have finally been able to really watch youtubes and stuff at my leisure, i watched the link you gave me. Yeah we saw an unfinished though nearly complete looking version of what the episode is supposed to be. The trailer gives a good feel for it though. I'll say the animations seemed much better than in the trailer, And everything was rather well improved upon from the trailer you linked. I won't spoil anything but it does take a very interesting interpretation on the canon which i find intriguing.

The designs they chose for armor were also very well done i felt. Overall i think when it comes out, excusing some questionable dialogue ebtween the sisters that happens before the combat with sombra (if they keep that), you guys will like it at least. It's a great work of animation and as i said it does some intriguing things.

And if you thought the combat and lighting were good in the trailer i really got to say the fluidity and the lighting only improved in the early version i saw. They didn't give us an exact time frame but they were aiming for the next few weeks or months for release honestly it was a long night at an 18+ panel and i forgot most of the side bits they were discussing.

Though with regards to my comment earlier that they were branching out they have been mulling over the idea of a name change and a character change (in that bubblegum would not be so identifiable as an MLP pony though distinctly horse related (said the voice of snowblind who i at present forget the name of cause i'm terrible like that)) as far as the name change goes they've been mulling voer a total name change or simply going with SFS and finding alternative ways of using SFS for other names. And have been discussing hte possibility of subchannels to silly filly studios as opposed to one massive channel with all the stuffs but they're not set on antyhing yet. They did mention they want to animate more humans if not for anything else at least the experience of animating humans. Apparently only one of their animators is currently capable of doing that.

Though apparently one of them is graduating in the next few weeks as a Mechanical Engineer so Kudos to him ^^. They were a really great bunch to have around the convention.

That's all i had MLP news wise though from the convention. So keep your eyes to their youtube for the final release and hopefully everyone will love it.

(Also Donut steel may return in the future for more silliness for those who liked him)

Hoping Season 5 gets a bit of that. They've got the lighting down better, but I wouldn't mind seeing some slick combat sequences. Make it Happen, Hasbro.

If FiM hadn't changed in tone since Season 1, I might've agreed with you.

While it's not common in all episodes, the series has gone in combat-heavy or otherwise dark directions. Canterlot Wedding had fighting all over the place, The Return of Harmony, while not violent, had a surprisingly disturbing labyrinth. Season 4 has thus far involved:

Luna blowing the hell out of Celestia via memory orb memory potion, tentacle entrapment, Flutterhulk bashing the hell out of everything(as well as everything else in Power Ponies), dual alicorns battling against a hentai tentacle beast, and lastly, Applejack donning S&M gear to fight off a mutated chimera in a fire swamp. The safety word is apples.

So nope, they've turned up the violence a good deal since the more family-friendly days of Season 1. The hoof-gloves are off, and I'd expect similar treatment as the series goes on. Not all the episodes will be like this - they've always had a knack for episodic variety.

@Dom: I too am hoping they add more of a serious tone to it, from what someone posted about the ending this season it sounds like it could go pretty damn awesome if it was done right and could very well involve some sort of open conflict. But they have definately been teering up the "combat" so to speak over the course of this season and the shows run so far. I'm excited for the finally and for another year of ponies. Unfortunately the summer hiatus is coming v.v.

 

Also does anyone know how many episodes are supposed to be in the 4th season? i want to say 26 because that was everything else except season 3 but it feels like we're nearing the 26 mark.
