That's somethign i found myself wondering the whole time he was captured, How Could Tirek absorb the powers of an entity who is apparently stronger than any Alicorn alone can handle with out extra power from the Elements of Harmony? Which themselves are or were seemingly the only things that could really pose a threat to our amazing Chaos God Discord.

 

Even then when his powers were drained he seemed to be more beaten up over his betrayal of the ponies and then his betrayal at the hands of tirek he didn't seem particularly powerless just kinda sulky.

It depends, really. Either Discord's reasoning was emotionally impaired, or this is true. I'm sure it's not what McCarthy meant, but it makes 100% sense if you're not a fan of Discord getting softer after S3, so I would accept any of these as true.

Well, Discord basically is the Tzeentch of Equestria. Sounds like something he'd be capable of planning and pulling off.

Also Dislestia is basically canon now.

Mmhm. It came off as an act in the interests of buying time. Their un-combined abilities may have been able to take him out, but the element of magic surprise may play in their favor.

Yeeeeeah, it's part of why I was getting tired of the "Twi isn't important enough" dialogue. If they'd ended it after spike's bit, I would've been fine.
 

I mean really for me i think i'm leaning more towards the discord planned this route this whole season he had been showing up rather randomly to do stuff and try the ponies patience testing their friendships with him as it were. The question here is why? Was he just that Curious or did he have this in the works the whole time? He knew things about the tree of Harmony obviously from the get go and seemed to be manipulating things in a way that we couldn't quite see, or at least i felt some of the episodes implied.

There's enough unanswered questions and vagueness(not just the first 2-parter) that makes it difficult to see if this is a series of coincidences, Pre-Planned by one or more of the Major "Elder" characters, or somewhere in between. I lean towards pre-planned. If a magical box popping out of the tree of harmony(which only those three are aware of) is unlocked by the testing of their specific elements and not only upgrades their own power, but happens to plant a miniature castle where the library used to be...

...Yeah, I think Celes/Luna/Discord have had this planned for a significant amount of time, somewhere at or after the events of Keep Calm and Flutter on. Celestia asking to free Discord just for the lulls seems less-than-legit. For now, it's just a theory. From the Wiki, kudos to Lopez for the tip:

And as far as I know, the "use" never came up after he was reformed.

He was reformed in the 3rd season right? Doesn't celestial say she needs him for something during the episode? It's never revealed what for though is it?...just sayin...this conspiracy could run pretty deep.

His two best points though, the ones I can agree with the most, were that having Discord learn his lesson AFTER Twilight demanded his release would have made his arc's resolution much better structured/clear, and that the first song was nearly useless and visually uninteresing. Couldn't the lyrics have had more substance? Couldn't the princessesses have been, oh I don't know - FLYING AROUND THE KINGDOM DURING THE TWILIGHT WITH PRETTY STUFF GOING ON? Why stand still on a balcony staring at Twilight for 30 seconds with a sad face? Why not be more direct about "Look, you kinda have to figure out your role yourself" instead of making it sound like "Hold on missy, we'll give you... something... someday" ----- something that contributed to the "I want more" impressions from Tommy and others.

I didn't think that song was useless or uninteresting, I thought that listening to Twilight moping about not being given enough power in song was hilarious. Kinda reminded me of "Revenge of the Sith".

I think it's totally plausible xD i mean this is discord we're talking about if someone claimed he was an elf that would still be plausible. Just this time there is actual ambiguity in the show that maybe makes it more plausible than him being an elf.


Aslo: Fluttercord/disflutter/Disco-shy/Flutterdisc is totally a real thing... imma go with discoshy... t's a better combination.


Edit: also since nate thought my "OC" which was a DnD character for a campaign hosted by my friend who allowed me to be ever so loose with the rules, and laws of physics. I figured i'd post an image here of the original sketch which came from a Dakka Dakka post years ago i just colored it and altered it slightly. It was used as the actual token for my character.
