Why do you watch My Little Pony?

It's written in such a way that managed to break the mold of "Little Girls Show" and take a setting like that into a High-Quality franchise. Yes, there's femininity(mostly in that damned theme song), but is very minimal compared to its predecessors.
 
Visually, it's all done in flash and has a very fluid, clear-cut look to it. So all the Newgrounds/AlbinoBlackSheep/etc. fans were unsurprisingly drawn to it.


It has a strong focus on character. Not just that they're more modern in writing than previous gens, but the focus on very serious moral dilemmas and meaningful lessons sets it apart from similar shows like Adventure Time or Regular Show(though they occasionally dabble there).
 
Humor. A lot of referential humor that Animaniacs fans would feel right at home with. Many popular kid-directed shows do this, but the volume MLP is able to do it is borderline astounding. Anywhere from current video games to early 20th century films, you name it.
 

Fandom. 2500 Page Fan Novels, Free Video Games, Thousands of art pieces, comics, animated GIFs, Well produced Fan Videos Online. The level of dedication here isn't seen too often.

Also, all the episodes are free off of either DailyMotion or YouTube.

Because it's an entertaining and impressive show that comes with a lot of extra goodies. Not sure how to be more specific than getting right into the episodes or fan stuff.

So I was re-reading A Wrinkle in Time and was reminded of the Season 5 preview. The book and the preview actually have a good deal in common; All humans are created equal... but being "equal" and being "all alike" are distinctly different. Hasbro's going to have to wrap it up in all of 22 minutes...assuming they stick with a 1-Parter, anyways. I sincerely hope they take advantage of handling a more panoptic parable of that nature instead of having it squandered.

We need to get Recon back, methinks; I shall invoke the powers of darkness to bring the Inquisitor to his rightful throne.

I'd buy it.

Most of the songs in Classic-MLP usually get it right on the nose, but Equestria Girls is uh, yeah. Fans seem to surpass Hasbro on multiple occasions. o.O Huge Fandom is Huge. The Full Sountrack for Rainbow Rocks is up. Sounds like something from either Glee or High School Musical. Not my sort of thing, but to each their own.

So, there's supposed to be, like, a movie coming out today or something. If it pops on YouTube or BronyState within the near future, I'll give it a look and throw a few comments and/or impressions on here. Likely won't bother til Sunday Monin'.



Anyways, Tommy finished his 15-minute video on the Nightmare Rarity Arc from the comics. Either he's taken a slight influence from KP/TBBAP's humor, or he just went off his rocker. Still good stuff anyway.

Rainbow Rocks is about what you'd expect: Rock Band turned MLP. They have a good tie-in to Equestria after the events of Twi's Kingdom, but the motivation for the sirens and their writing in general feels like old territory.

Well, Spin-Off is Spin-off and I've seen worse. I'd take it over the original, and the Secret Ending may have implications to Vanilla MLP...

It's the Pony Version of The Great Offscreen War, though done through banishing specific individuals instead of beating entire groups like the changelings, and this ain't much different. Thanks, Meghan. Crap happens in the past, Twi and Mane 6 forced to deal with it. This time with a Rock Battle Challenge. Can't really complain, though. Got what I paid for with the movie. I just try to pretend it's non-canon and hope Early 2015 gets here earlier.

I'm surprised by the lack of love for Applejack. She's one of the more honorable characters, and is both honest and loyal, in the same way Rarity's element and Fluttershy's element could be switched to either character. The latter may have inspired Green Isn't Your Color. Which leaves Rainbow Dash as... element of Awesome? Sanic? Yeah, I'm not sure there.
